Next years offense could be elite

Jedd Fisch deserves a crown for what he did here.

Before Duke and Dorsett got hurt our offense looked better than last year, we were ranked higher also..

That is true they were statistically better but IMO that's just a result of giving the majority of the carries to Duke rather than having to split 50/50 with Mike James last year. Also, were more experienced this year on Offense this year so we should of improved either way. The biggest issue with Coley has been Morris's regression and how do you reconcile that with him leaving FSU and after years having a real uneven offense the last few years and now they've been amazing this year.

I refuse to say Miami's offense has the potential to be elite when we don't run the football nearly enough and there isn't any history saying we will. We're 102 in the nation this year, not even averaging 35 attempts per game. 114 last year with under 31 attempts per game. Most of Al Golden's head coaching career has his teams floating around 34-35 attempts per game (minus an outlier the year he had a healthy Bernard Pierce). Unless you've got everything else going for you (savant at QB, standout D; see: Alabama and FSU), 35 carry/game usually ain't going to cut it (FWIW, Alabama runs the football ~40 times per game against teams over .500).

They are amazing because they now have Jameis Winston at QB.

We were averaging about 220 ypg before Duke got hurt.

This was said last year...We cane fans have grown accustomed to living by looking into the future and having optimism despite the facts that are right in our face. OC and the offense have gone under the radar given that we have allowed a whopping 2500 yds of offense in the past 4/5 weeks. But do not get it twisted, our offense has been inconsistent, predictable, and unable to get the job done when we NEED them to (goal line, getting 1 yard etc). Do we have play makers?...absolutely, to we have talent on offense?...absolutely, do we have a good OC?...shows some creativity at the beginning of each game but then goes MIA, so I am on the fence and leaning towards NO.

Golden is in a tough spot at QB next year.

If the QB competition is close, he'll be compelled to give the job to the Senior. Could be bad for morale if the hot-shot Freshman gets the benefit of the doubt.

And if either guy struggles early, there will be a lot of pressure to go to the backup.

I'm hoping Olsen tears it up in the spring and fall and takes the reins.

I agree with you here. I'm not in favor of Williams winning the QB battle, not another one and done. We need one of the young guns to win the job outright and have them for a few years.

If the first half of this game is a parallel of our future we may have nightmares because this roster of offense has talent minus Morris but our qb will have to get help from coaches in the off season

For those of you that think Williams is the answer you are kidding yourself I saw a memory of Jacory harris when he let that ball hang up in the air today in the 4th

Come on bro he got one freaking pass attempt. He certainly looked more poised against the same garbage teams that SM look flustered against. I think he is an upgrade compared to SM. I for one will not miss Stephen at all.

I look poised in garbage time minutes

He played for most of the second half. Not like he came in the last two minutes. I seem to remember him dropping dimes to guys in stride pretty much all day. Our TEs came out of the witness protection program when Williams came in. Who threw the dime to Rashawn Scott that he got hurt on? Pretty sick throw and catch. Williams played a full season of D 1 ball so its not like he is going to be a deer in the headlights next year.

He is going to be more poised then "Snickers One Read, Happy Feet McGuilicutty"

I am very dissapointed with our offense. We are hopeless without Duke Johnson. It's like our entire offense is based on him and that's a problem.

What's even more crazy is with our defense a circus clown with down syndrome would choose to run the ball more...but we continue to throw and run fvckin stretch plays

We have yet to see how Duke comes back and that's obviously a big deal. What if he's not the same guy for half the year or the whole year? We see right now that we don't have an NFL-caliber back on the squad at this point without him.

Morris hasn't been very good this year, but doesn't it say *something* that they've been very effusive in their praise for him and very protective of him? They never say anything bad or challenge him to be better. That is how coaches treat their QB's when they think there is no viable alternative. They refuse to let the media create a situation and they refuse to challenge him to play a lot better. That tells me that regardless of what WE think, they have zero faith in Williams to give them anything better than the mediocre play that Morris has given them. And in fact, they think he's substantially worse. That is meaningful to me. They could certainly be wrong, but it's clear that they don't believe that they have a guy on the roster right now (besides Morris) that can give them good play.

I think we can be good on offense next year, but I don't think we'll have the quarterback play to make us great. That's fine--it puts more pressure on Golden to straighten out the D side.

Coleys O is simple you just not seeing it with Morris at QB. I think Williams is more suited for it. Only issue with Williams is he doesn't have the arm to get it down the field. Coleys O is for the QB to manage the game. Get the ball out of his hands quickly and watch the playmakers at WR, RB and TE make the plays. Check it with FSU last year and also this year. Jimbo may have called the plays during the game but during the week and the game plan was put together by Coley. EJ and Winston both did this last year and this year. Winston has the arm to throw deep when it opens from the short quick routes and DBs have to step up and then get burnt on the long ball.
