Honest question @Memnon - who do you like for QB next year? Replacing Cam is going to be very difficult. He’s a special talent.

He’s tough, he broke his arm for this team and beat Clemson and almost beat FSU. That’s enough for 90% of this board.

Comparing him to Cam is apples to oranges. Cam had done it for multiple years and against P5 comp. And his issues weren’t accuracy they were fumbles and taking bad sacks. That’s an easy fix, bc it’s on the O line, not him. Mateer is having these issues against G5 comp and hasn’t even played a full year.

Just answer me and be honest. Have you watched more than 1 full Wazzu game this year.

I’m not comparing him and Ward. They’re vastly different players. Mateer is a legit dual threat, that may very well hit 3k passing 1k rushing this year. Yes, he’s playing G5 comp. He’s also playing with a G5 roster. He’s not as accurate as Cam but he’s not as inaccurate as the raw stats make him appear. His receivers are HORRIBLE.

Cam was 1 of 1. I came back to this site after leaving for like 5 years just to be annoying in saying we needed to get him months before his name was in the portal. But Mateer is another guy we should pound the table for. Put him behind this line, give him these running backs and receivers, and let him cook. We’ll be right back in the playoff hunt if he’s our QB next year, and I’d **** sure take that over Emory, Bailey, or some guy from Ohio State or wherever that hasn’t started a single college game but had 5 stars next to their name a year ago.

I’ve watched 5 of their games. He was very unimpressive against Boise, SDSU, Texas Tech and Fresno. Was good against Hawaii.

He wouldn’t win 10 games if he was in Cam’s spot right now.

Mateer does have them in first place in the Pac 12. Playing against opponents with a combined record of 41 wins and 43 losses

Also he is a one read, tuck and run QB.

I think if we continue to improve talent on offense we won’t have to rely on an all world quarterback to carry us. That said, **** game managers right in the ***. I don’t want a guy who can “distribute the ball”. I want a guy who blows opponents doors off with pinpoint accuracy and leaves them chasing his cloud of dust as he breaks the pocket and picks up chunks of yards scrambling.

I want more Cam Wards.

Don’t want to turn this thread into a pointless back and forth. If you’ve watched their games and are unimpressed then agree to disagree, the initial comments just sounded like everyone I’ve talked to that hasn’t watched them play and just looked at box scores. I personally thought the Texas Tech game was a massive indictment on his receivers, just drops all over the place.

I don’t think this year’s Mateer would win 10 games with this year’s Miami team. I do think next year’s team, with the younger guys developing, an experienced offensive line coming back, and I’d assume an at least competent defense, with a Mateer that has a year under his belt as a college starter would be a double digit win team.

And again, I’d **** sure rather take my chances with that then the other options unless someone completely unexpected hit the portal. That’s more the point. Just don’t put a “game manager” (Emory) out there.

I'd be shocked if Nuss & Johnson transfer.

Unless Nuss hates Brian Kelly.

Johnson was K St highest rated QB recruit ever. Idk if they don't up their bag for him. I guess maybe if we offer a bigger bag.

Nussmeier seems to have developed a knack for throwing really bad interceptions at critical moments.
