I agree OP. This is 2000 all over again. This is the year we show the world that THE U is back.

I have a friend who is an FSU fan and he tells me the same thing. He says next year we are in the National Title race.

Obviously all this remains to be seen but we have every reason to be excited.

Your "friend" is only messing with you, dude.

Don't give into it.

We are a few years (3+) from even sniffing the butt of the 400 pound gorilla who guards the NC trophy.

Look here guys, we have another mope. :ohlord:

Golden has proven that he can build a program. Temple was a ******* joke before he coached there. And here, he has amassed talent in 3 years, except maybe on the DL but we have enough there. Lol @ 3 years away

I don't see my post as "mopey" at all.

I'm just as optimistic about this team as the next guy, but I am also realistic.

Coaching definitely needs to improve drastically, and we still need proven guys to step up and be vocal leaders (ie. Ed Reed, Al Blades, etc...).

I'm not ready to just go out and compare this squad to one of the best teams ever fielded in the history of college football. That would be a bit of a stretch.

Yeah I agree that we can't compare the two teams. No team stacks up to the 2001 team. What I think everyone is saying is that the results of the seasons will be similar.

Similar in what sense?

This isn't a 12-1 or 11-2 team.

I don't feel that we have the sort of discipline that it takes to get to that level yet.

I believe that we will improve on both sides of the ball, but as of now, this is still a 3-4 loss team (I hope I'm wrong).

Until we stop seeing this type of softness I don't see any reason for anyone getting overly excited. Maybe now that the Shannon trash is gone this team will take on a new tough persona but I'll believe it when I see it on Labor Day.

No one can predict that, you silly goose. But the parallels between the two teams are spooky.

please explain the similarities.

This year's offense is actually far more talented. Veteran QB with 30 fbs starts and a much better arm than Dorsey. Better RB than anyone on that team. Better WR depth across the board. Couple of great TEs. Big powerful situationally dominant OL.

The defense is arguably more talented too, and there's no arguing the steady gradual improvement and Al's track record of fielding a dominant defense in year 4.

I'm going to add my optimism to this post. I'm going into my 66th. Season of looking forward to a successful season. Sometimes things don't work out. The seventies were tough but In some years you have to enjoy good years by a player or two even when the team struggles. I think of Rubin Carter, Chuck Forman and O.J. Anderson. Football fans don't have to be rational. You just have to love your school. The Canes have given me a lot of joy over the years. I have said from the beginning that Al Golden was not a finished product when he got here neither was Butch. But he like Butch will progress into an excellent coach. There is a difference between being an irate fan who yes even chastises the coach occasionally and a know it all who wants to be the first to point out something negative and then feeds the fire with more negative post hoping that their prediction will come true so he can say that he was first. They may be fans but only to the extent that the relationship feeds their ego. The team will hit the field shortly thinking they are going to the top. Lot's of sweat and pain will follow. The sky is the limit in their minds and we need to be there with them and you know what I'm right with them. I'm irrational but that's what fans are.

I remember when everyone wanted butch out yall remember ? i remember

What are you talking about, I wanted JJ out after that Sugar Bowl to TN! The best news is we fans usually don't know crap. Let's go kick the crap out of everyone. This team has ton of talent. I can not wait to see Chad dump his first OT on top of a QB! Tired of being depressed. GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember those dudes. Reason enough to go to games sometimes. Remember the Dline in the Mad Stork's senior year? It could have played with our best and would give us an NC today. Fairly sure they all played on Sundays. These kids deserve us to shut up for a while and just enjoy. Plenty of time later to complain.

There is a fine line between delusion and reality. Every fan is excited for Canes games and season whether they admit it or not. Deep down inside all of us want to believe that we will improve, however it is extremely hard to do so when we have trended down at the end of every season under AG. The moppery isn't just a reflection of the results but directed at AG for his salesy approach, pregame excuse making, clinging on to his best friend and losing out on big time SFLA recruits. Penn State situation didn't help him either. There is no question that new enthusiasm is neccessary but to just expect fans to sweep the issues under the rug for a rah rah approach isn't realistic either.

Your friend is a troll. He is laughing at you behind your back.
