New S&C coach added to staff?

Well since I know Jimmy Graham personally I am going to say I know he comes back for Swasey. But keep thinking what you want. But it's not the only thing he comes back for.

Enlighten us. What specifically has Jimmy told you? I honestly would love to know. It would certainly help AS's rep on these boards.

No need. Just telling you now that a reason Jimmy goes back is Swasey. Not the only reason but a reason.

Payton said Jimmy Graham -- who missed the spring -- had the lowest time on the conditioning test. "I told him to stay in Miami every year."

Fire Swasey

lol at you giving Swasey credit for this.

lol at you not giving Swasey credit for anything.

I don't know why the Canes come back every year, but I do believe they had been doing so for many many years. By the way, who did Moffit train under? we have been soft for a long time, so I am good with the extra help. Bama has about 100 strength coaches I think.

Moffit learned under Gayle Hatch. Cochran they guy at Bama apprenticed at LSU under Moffit. Vic Valoria at FSU learned from Moffit. See the trend..

All the mopes should list all the top S&C trainers in the country and list their college majors. You might be surprised that most of them didn't major in gym class. They learned their craft and apprenticed under other great trainers. Swasey worked with the great Tommy Moffitt. Pretty sure he picked things up from him.

I doubt all those NFL guys are coming to UM to train with him because he's incompetent.

Another delusional poster.

Swasey worked with Moffit for maybe a year. That is not enough time.

Most SC coaches have multiple degrees and a main exercise science degree.

Again, players don't come back to train with Swasey. They come back for south beach. Swasey is incompetent. Results show during the season

Instead of just making fake claims, please point out all the great S&C guys and give us their college education credentials. Sorry if I'm not just going to take your word for it, Gopher fan.

Shannon Turley - Stanford:

Turley earned his bachelor’s degree in the science of human nutrition, foods, and exercise from Virginia Tech in 2000, while also earning a minor in chemistry. During his stint with the Hokies, Turley served as president of the Exercise Science Student Organization and began his career in strength and conditioning as a volunteer student assistant following a brief track and field career. He continued his education at Missouri where he earned a master’s degree in education and counseling psychology with a concentration in sports psychology.

Turley is a certified member of the NSCA, and previously held certificates from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, and the International Society of Sports Nutrition. Turley is one of the nation’s most sought after innovators and regularly presents concepts of his training system to diverse audiences at venues around the world.

Scott Cochran - Bama:

A native of New Orleans, Cochran received a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from LSU in 2001 and added a master's degree in sports management from LSU in 2003.

James Dobson - Nebraska: He earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Wisconsin in 1996, and his master’s of science and administration degree from Central Michigan in 2004.

A certified strength and conditioning specialist and a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Not a huge Swasey guy, but the guys here from the big teams swear by him. Think he does much better with the skill guys. You don't here much from the guys on the line.

smoke, umarcher, ridler, m3n every single post is nothing but negatives.. I wonder if you lames are ever happy.

What mopes. I hope they don't try to jump back on when we start dominating this year.

Mopes, mopes, and more mopes. It's amazing how many people have added this to their vocabulary around here.

Someone mentioned players coming back to train here in the off season, is this still true? I haven't heard of anyone saying that in half a decade or so. Regardless, a lot of those players who did come back were from the area and had homes here. Toss in SB, it was a no brainer.

We have been physically manhandled, player for player, no matter who we play, for 10 years straight without exception.

Watch the WF game last year, with what even the announcers were calling the smallest, most pathetic D line in football, giving up an average of 70lbs per man to our OL. Not much S&C evident for us there.

THAT alone gives a lot of creedence to those who criticize our S&C program.

Haha what else is he gonna say after being in Miami and after being asked that question directly? What did he tell you personally? Since you're best buds.

Remember when Golden got here and they evaluated how many times the guys could bench press 225 lbs.? They looked at the number of players that could rep 225 10x's, 20x's, 30x's, and 40x's…something like that. They had goals for how many players should be at 10, 20, 30, etc...It was shocking the lack of overall strength--even more so when they compared the number the following year after instituting Utough.

Anyone have a link to a thread or article? Couldn't find one.

Found it: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umiami/2012/05/canes-are-seeing-results-in-the-weight-room-closing-in-on-4010-goal.html

If there was ever an indictment of an S&C coach regarding his acumen on strength training (not speed and agility) this is it:

According to Swasey, UM currently has 36 players who are bench pressing 225 pounds (the NFL combine testing standard) 20 times and seven more who are doing it 30 times. A year ago, Swasey said, he only had 11 players on the entire roster who could produce 20 reps of 225 pounds. The goal, Swasey said, is for the team to eventually have 40 players who can do 20 reps of 225 and 10 who can achieve 30 reps by the time fall practice begins.

That's why players were wearing new U Tough t-shirts Monday with the numbers 40/10 across the front of it.

"All of us are shocked how strong we've gotten," said senior Ben Jones, one of the seven to achieve 30 reps. "Everybody is buying into the program now and believing in what coach is saying and are ready to just go for it. I wouldn't say it wasn't happening before. But it's just a new energy around here."

"From 11 players to 36 players benching 225 lbs 20 times."

Think the HC might have something to do with what is emphasized in the S&C program? Or did Swasey not know what a bench press was before Al got here?

There's a reason it's the only weight lifting exercise done at the combine. I'll put it to you another way…what if we only had 5 players on the team that could run faster than a 4.6 40 (hand-timed)? There would be rioting in the streets on Canestime and the WEZ.
Then, what if within one year, not through recruiting new guys but through training, we had 16 guys that could run a 4.6 or faster. Everyone would be asking what the **** was going on prior to that year after the dramatic improvement. This is perfectly analogous to the lack of the strength we had prior to Golden's arrival.

I don't care what the head coach is telling you to do, those were very embarrassing numbers.
