From a transfer perspective, Adrian Colbert was as good as anyone could have ever reasonably imagined. It looks like he'll be in the NFL for a while. Brock Berlin was a great transfer for us as well. From a walk-on perspective, Santana and Joaquin... there are your legends.

Pretty sure that the academy players must decide whether or not to sign on for the full commitment after their first or second year. Navy's FB (Gargiulo?) was torn between returning to Navy or leaving at the end of last year because he wasn't sure he wanted to make the full commitment.

Have to make a commitment after their second year. Two kids I know from my area are at Annapolis right now. Friend's son was a guard at USAFA. He transferred after his second year to go play in California. Kid weighed 300 pounds and there was no way he was ever going to make weight to be comissioned. He had to get down to around 235 and Calhoun wanted him bigger.

Didn't see the kid on their varsity roster. He may have gone to Navy Prep which a lot of football players do to meet the Naval Academy academic standards. Or he may have played junior varsity which most of the freshmen do. I'd suspect he may have done both.

Albert Bentley should be a legend, but he's not. For some reason, the people on these message boards have forgotten--or never learned--about Hurricane football of the early 1980's, the teams that established our national championship level of competitiveness.

Unlike Gonzalez and Moss, Bentley was not a recruited walk-on, but a kid who actually showed up at practice and was discouraged from trying out. At least that's the story I was told by athletic department staff in the '80's.

He turned out to be a **** of a football player and actually did quite well in both pro leagues, the USFL and the NFL.

They were especially good during the Joe Bellino-Roger Staubach era. They were usually as good as or better than we were.

My father told me, years ago, about how he would take the train from NY to Philadelphia to see the Army-Navy game. He had no connection to either school, although he might have been an enlisted man in the Army during WWII and I know that often those who served in one of the branches also supported the sports teams for that branch's academy. My father probably took that trip sometime in the 1940's. Also, sometime in the '40's, my father attended UM and wrote for the student newspaper.

The service academy teams were national powers back then.

Here's a trivia question: In the 1940's, one of the outstanding college QBs played at both Army and UM. Who was it?

Darian Stephenson, originally class of 2016 from Westminster Christian, is transferring from Navy to Miami as a preferred walk-on and enrolls next week.

Stephenson had multiple D1 offers before a knee injury in the summer heading into his senior season.

He tore his ACL at FIU camp, which caused programs to lose some interest. Stephenson was a versatile LB prospect that a few major staffs (including Miami) were planning to track during his senior year before that injury.

Any word on how the knee had healed?
