New DT offer(2019)

I guess you haven’t been following Miami long. As a whole over past couple decades we were never a team that won the National recruiting title. We’ve landed a few sprinkled in here and there, but mostly it’s been guys who fly a little under the radar.

We won in 2008

These aren't Golden's evaluations we're talking about. That guy had no eye for talent.
Golden's lower tier guys had offers from schools like Akron and FIU. Richt's lower tier guys at least have ACC offers.

Richt coached one of the most talented programs in college football. Tons of NFL talent on his rosters.
Simpson coached DL in the NFL.

I'm willing to give these coaches the benefit of the doubt.
They've seen what legit talent looks like and they didn't forget as soon as they started coaching at UM.

Golden lower tier guys didn't even have MAC offers. Didnt he accept a kids commitment whose Best offer was James Madison??

Size - check
Physique - great for a DT, kids is built almost perfectly
Technique - outstanding

Only question marks are get-off and knee-bend.

And let's say he lacks elite get-off and knee-bend...
That's okay. Those things have little effect on his ability to defend the run. (although get-off does help)
If he can be a stud on 1st & 2nd down then that's great. We sub-package on passing downs anyway. We use 3 DE's and our best pass rushing DT, or sometimes even 4 DE's.

I'd like to see more film on the kid before I give a definite opinion but as of right now he looks pretty good. He's not gonna be highly ranked if he missed his junior year.

I like this pickup. Stars be damned, this kid looks to be athletic and had really good technique already. Just the work on the sled was impressive. Add to it that he's an STA guy, which can only help.

As i mentioned in other threads, you can take chances on guys who are "under the radar" if you trust your evaluation AND they have some type of elite skill....be it size, speed, athleticism, strength, etc. This kid has a good frame, great technique, good get-off and room to grow. At his size now, he can play SSDE and kick inside on pass downs. In another 1-2 years, he may be DT all the way, maybe in an RJ mold.....more of a lean, quick 3-tech who slants and causes disruption in the backfield.

You’re right. I should just blindly get excited about us offering an unranked DT while seemingly striking out on elite DTs (Sans Nesta) for multiple years. No cause for concern. The trenches aren’t that important. Thanks for the advice!
Quit being a douche! Its annoying! Kid had a broken fibula last year. He is 6'3" 276 and was rated 3* as a SSDE. He came to camp and absolutely blew the coaching staff away as a DT. He was offered on the spot. Just sit back grab some Orville Redenbacher and watch this kid blow up this year. Then when the FSU's, UF's, UT's, and Auburns of the world come running to try and flip this kid, then maybe you will pull out your tampon and get with the program. I'll bet you're down on the Sam Brooks commit too.

Already bigger than Egghead who was one of the most underrated defensive tackles to start at Miami.
As someone who went to Eau Gallie High School around the same time as Walters, I absolutely agree - dude was a beast in the weight room and on the field. But EGHS was a really bad football team going up against mediocre central florida talent at a time when it was much harder to find those diamonds in the rough. Walters turned into a really solid DT for one of the most talented college teams ever and was eventually drafted by the Jets - not bad, right?

Also, this quote from Munoz got to me:
This is it for me. This is where I'm going. I'm a Miami Hurricane. It just says a lot that they are putting their trust into me after the injury and I hope I can just capitalize on this opportunity.
Give me kids like this all day long. He gets it, and he knows how much faith the staff is putting in him. Definitely feels like he will continue to get better in order to prove he is worthy of the offer/commitment.

Personally, I'm ecstatic by the offer and firm commitment. These are the kinds of kids that eventually get national attention and then everyone is like "how did no one see this coming?".

Congrats to him, saw him and his dad meet coach Simpson. A lot of talent there. Some UM players wore stripes for the 7v7 games.

I heard Kentucky was his leader prior to the Canes offer... I know Kentucky has to have us on their **** list. I mean Williams, Smith, and now Munoz..
