"New" ACC Predictions

Now lets look at this defense when they are actually making the plays that they are in position to make.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBCMMjuq76g

0:20 Shayon Green blows up the fullback and Denzel and Rayshawn Jenkins destroy the RB resulting in a fumble.

1:51 Shayon Green has great coverage on the RB in the flats (that same coverage that you guys seem to hate so much). If you watch the play close the RB is actually Driskels 1st option but with Shayon there he has to look for someone else. This additional time allows Chick to get off the block and put pressure on Driskel. This pressure forces Driskel to throw into even better coverage in the middle of the field resulting in a Rayshawn Jenkins INT.

2:12 Justin Renfrow fires off the ball low and gets amazing pressure resulting in a stop on 4th and 1.

2:52 Denzel Perryman playing the middle of the field and understanding the down and distance, he keeps the play in front of him and comes up and makes a sure tackle.

4:02 Again great coverage and Shayon Green gets pressure on Driskel. Tracy reads the play and breaks on the ball for the INT.

4:23 Tyriq McCord blows by the tackle and destroys Driskel resulting in a fumble. Chick also gets great penetration on the play forcing Driskel to stay in the pocket giving McCord time to get there and lower the boom.

I would love for someone to break down the plays where this scheme was the result of big plays. Show me the plays where there was not a University of Miami football players close enough to make a play. Again I know there are some things that need to be corrected with the scheme but there is no scheme in the world that could make up for some of the players that were on the field last season.

This is a mans game and those guys played like men against Florida and against Duke they played like little girls simple as that. The defense did not change over the corse of the season, the only thing that changed was guys not making the same plays they made before.

Great job Hstokes.

If you're taking request, do a break down of PITT game.. I remember that game having blatant mistakes all over.

0:56 Ufomba Kamalu is blown off the ball, Jimmy Gains takes another horrible angle to the ball carrier resulting in a huge hole, then Kacy Rodgers pulls a classic Kacy move and just lets the RB run right by him.

1:40 Tracy Howard is right there to make the open field tackle all he has to do is break down and make the play. Instead he allows the guy to run past him for the TD. And what the **** is AJ Hightsmith doing on this blitz SMH.

Interesting that Athlon and others predict us to lose 1 of the 2 nonconf games despite having better talent than our opponent AND 2 conf games where we are more talented. Of course predictions are just opinions but why the disrespect?

Archer fights the good fight but there's no point in arguing with fools over how BAD our coaching is.

Most (other than our fan base with their heads up their ***) have seen the trend of bad coaching.

Lol at 2010 being ranked 15th overall. Might be the worst class we've had in 30 years.

Nice find..I'm sure it will produce crickets from the slurper brigade.

It's obviously been a talent deficiency that had us losing to Duke, Vag Tech, and Loserville right guys?

The cupboards were bare, blame Shannon, blame Coker, blame Shapiro, blame Cristobal, blame the NCAA for not giving Ojomo an extra year of eligibility, blame everyone except Dorito Golden.

I don't think anyone thinks Doritos is doing a great job.

7 4 star recruits already and top 10.. The class is good right now

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/school/_/id/2390/class/2015

This depressed me...clicked on Alabama 16 out of 18 are 4star ESPN 300 including Ridley and Burgess-Becker.

Don't be depressed! Some here feel that Golden is a top-notch recruiter and is doing a wonderful job.

Right up until you show them what a real recruitment program looks like, and they suddenly change the subject.

LOL so you are just going to ignore Alabama's ridiculous football budget, resources, and large support staff who's only job is to tweet, text, and send kids Facebook messages.

Not to mention Miami not winning **** in the past 10 years or the 3 years of NCAA investigation.

No Golden is not the greatest recruiter in the business, but my God can anyone here be realistic SMFH.

In kind: LOL so you are going to ignore that Miami sits right in the middle of the hottest recruiting bed in the USA? The greatest concentration of skill players? And you're going to ignore that other teams hundreds of miles away are able to successfully recruit here?

Alabama had some down seasons, as did Texas, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, and anyone else you care to mention.

3 years of the NCAA investigation? Compare to what Butch Davis did with 31 actual scholarship reductions!

Let's be realistic here.

The talent on this team has finally caught up with age and experience. I guarantee that this defense will dominate this season. Most of you guys are so blind with hate that you can't even see the issues that this team has faced over the last few seasons.

1. Lack of Upperclassman talent
2. Lack of experienced talent
3. Counting on too many Fr's and SO's
4 Guys in position to make play but not making the play.
5. Starters having to play on special teams because of the lack of depth.

Miami VS Virginia Tech
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asMkdYqNBdg

0:14 Jimmy Gaines does not play his assignment and leaves the middle open for a big gain. He is clearly in position to make the play and he simply does not

3:23 Tyrone Cornelius bites on the play action and leaves his zone wide open allowing the WR to get wide open for a easy 1st down and more.

4:08 Denzel Perryman is in perfect position to make a play and gets pancaked by the TE. Kacy Rodgers is also held on that play.

4:55 Shayon Green is in position to get the sack, but like so many other times he simply is not athletic enough to break down and make the tackle.

5:29 Justin Renfrow is blown off the ball on the goal line allowing the easy score.

7:25 Thurston Armbrister does not play his assignment and allows the FB to run free in the flats. This has nothing to do with coaching because Thurston actually covered the same exact play against UF and made a big play.

9:07 Shayon Green is supposed to set the edge but he is blocked inside and opens the outside for a big gain. Also Denzel Perryman does not attack the outside but he allows himself to be blocked 10 yards down the field.

9:15 AJ Highsmith has a clear shot at the RB but he misses the tackle by a mile.

12:11 Tracy Howard reads the play but is clearly blocked in the back.

13:28 on 3rd and 17!!! Both Deon Bush and Denzel Perryman have the guy wrapped up and fail to take him down resulting in a back breaking TD.

And the list goes on..... Plays were blown all season by guys who were in great position to make plays.

I missed this the first time through.

5. Starters having to play on special teams because of the lack of depth.

When did you become a Cane fan? Starters have been playing ST's forever. Go look through all the teams in the 80's/90's/00's....

Being realistic would mean acknowledging that while the talent pool is as good as it gets many of the kids have academic issues which render them out of reach.
It would also mean that despite this, our skill player recruiting hasn't been an issue.. Don't know about you but I wouldn't trade our SFL skill players for anyone.
It would also mean realizing that teams have been poaching local talent continuously for years. It happened when Howard, JJ, Erickson and Butch were here and it will continue to happen. Heck Bowden owned SFL recruiting during in the 90's.

Total 49

FSU 5
Florida 5
Alabama 1
LSU 3
Louisville 1

So despite the issues that Miami has faced over the years, this staff has still managed to pull in more top South Florida than Florida, FSU, Alabama, LSU, and Louisville combined. Yes this staff has missed on some very important kids, but of all these kids only one was just a clear ***** up by this staff (Travis Rudolph). Miami was in the top 2 until the very end for at least 75% of all of these kids, I really don't know what more you expected.

Issues this staff has faced
  1. 3 years of NCAA investigation
  2. Negative recruiting from every school in the country
  3. Limited scholarships (This staff stated multiple times, that they were self imposing scholarships)
  4. Admissions (several studs were not offered simply because this staff knew they would not make it in)
  5. Lack of fan support (Kids don't want to play in a empty stadium)
  6. Broken relationships by previous staff (We all know this staff had to spend the first two years repairing relationships because the previous staff simply neglected them)
  7. Lack of competitive facilities (Miami was miles behind every major program in terms of facilities when this staff arrived)

The talent on this team has finally caught up with age and experience. I guarantee that this defense will dominate this season. Most of you guys are so blind with hate that you can't even see the issues that this team has faced over the last few seasons.

I have been a Miami fan from the day I was born in 1982. I was born and raised in Miami as well as my father and grandfather, I bleed Orange and Green.

Yes the great Miami teams had starters playing special teams, but the great teams also had depth. Those teams had All Americans as backups, there was so much talent that if a starter was hurt he could never regain that spot again. Sean Taylor, the most gifted safety I have ever seen, had to redshirt!!

The huge difference with this team is when Denzel needed a blow last season Tyrone Cornelius or Thurston Armbrister would enter the game, thats a huge problem. There was a major drop off in talent from 1st to 2nd string and it showed all season.

I agree 100% , I just wanted to note that Armbrister have improved alot this spring. He has gone unnoticed since he was average last year I expect him to be a bigger than expected contributer.

I have always rooted for Thurston. Lets not forget that this kid came to Miami as a 6'3 195 safety, since then he has grown into a 240 LB. He was still leaning the position last season and that experience should really help him.

HStokes....can you explain Penn State? Tennessee?

You saying we dont have the horses? Maybe that has something to do with our coaches liking Armbrister more than Skai Moore

I am not saying this team does not have talent. What I am saying is this team had 0 SR talent and the talent on this team last season was still young and making mistakes. Also all of the blame is not on the scheme, we simply had guys out there who would not or could not make the play even when it was right in front of them.

2013 Defensive SR's
  1. Curtis Porter
  2. Luther Robinson
  3. Shayon Green
  4. Kalvin Cain
  5. Tyrone Cornileus
  6. Jimmy Gaines
  7. Kacy Rodgers
  8. AJ Highsmith
  9. Justin Renfrow
  10. David Gilbert

Now ask yourself will Miami miss any of these 10 guys listed??? The answer is **** NO. There is not one guy on that list that would crack the 3 deep of any great Miami defense ever.

I believe the most talented players on the 2013 defense, with the exception of Denzel, were all SO's and FR's. There is simply no way anyone can expect those guys to be ready that fast to dominate week in and week out. With the bulk of the talent on defense now being JR's we should see a much better defense this upcoming season.

Who is better??
  1. Curtis Porter vs Michael Wyche JR
  2. Luther Robinson vs Jelani Hamilton JR
  3. Shayon Green vs Tyriq McCord JR
  4. Kalvin Cain vs Chad Thomas FR
  5. Tyrone Cornileus vs Raphael Kirby JR
  6. Jimmy Gaines vs Denzel Perryman SR
  7. Kacy Rodgers vs Jamal Carter SO
  8. AJ Highsmith vs Dallas Crawford RJR
  9. Justin Renfrow vs Calvin Heurtelou JR
  10. David Gilbert vs Al-Quadin Muhammad SO

I personally believe that the guys who will be replacing the 2013 SR's are better football players and because of that this defense will be better. There is no way Jamal Carter misses as many easy tackles as AJ Highsmith did in 2013. I can't see Dallas getting beat as often as Kacy Rodgers was in 2013. You can't tell me that Tyriq McCord will miss as many sacks as Shayon Green did. If McCord was in on any of those plays where Green whiffed on the QB, I can almost guarantee that the outcome would have been different.

As far as Penn State (7-5) and Tennessee (5-7) what exactly is your question? They both played young guys and struggled all season.

In terms of Skai, the staff totally blew that one. They went all in on Matthew Thomas and paid the price big time. I actually believe this staff projected Skai Moore and Jermaine Grace at the same position and Grace was just higher on their board. They were only taking 3 LB during the 2013 cycle and the 3 they wanted were Jermain Grace, Matthew Thomas, and JUCO Devante Bond.

If you recall Alex Figueroa was not offered until 3 weeks before Christmas. The only reason he was offered was because Devante Bond had academic issues.
