FWIW:

Virginia Tech is Athlon’s projected Coastal Division champion, but there’s very little separation between Frank Beamer’s team and Miami or North Carolina. In terms of overall talent, Miami is No. 2 in the ACC. That being said, the prediction for Miami and North Carolina are identical (8-4 Overall; 5-3 ACC).

Also a piece on Recruiting Classes versus Conference Performance with stats from 247.
Here is how the ACC rosters rank entering the 2014 season. Below is each roster in the ACC based on average nat'l recruiting ranking over the last 5 classes (according to 247Sports) and each team's win-loss record.

According to the chart to be in second place on talent and five teams ahead of us in W/L, could we possibly be lacking in the coaching department.?

My thinking exactly.

Others here will blame the cloud, talent, global warming, rogue meteors, the Cretaceous/Tertiary line, the banning of lead in paint, a bad coffee crop, the release of the Taliban Dream Team, and the lack of a really good five-dollar cigar.

Nice find..I'm sure it will produce crickets from the slurper brigade.

It's obviously been a talent deficiency that had us losing to Duke, Vag Tech, and Loserville right guys?

The cupboards were bare, blame Shannon, blame Coker, blame Shapiro, blame Cristobal, blame the NCAA for not giving Ojomo an extra year of eligibility, blame everyone except Dorito Golden.

Thing of it is, "talent" doesn't guarantee wins. You can be the most talented player in the world, but if your work ethic sucks and you'd rather spend your days smoking up (I'm lookin' at you Seantrel), then you are of no value to the team. Unfortunately, we've had a lot of talented slack-azzes.

You gotta be shucking me! We're more talented than Clemson?

That means our coaches . . . really, really suk.

Same **** different game....

Funny, that's exactly how I felt watching our team over the last 3 years.

http://insider.espn.go.com/college-...ting/classrankings/_/class/2015/date/20140528

Not according to this... I don't think Golden is a good coach either but he has brought in alot of talent in the last 3 classes.. Whether we like it or not he isn't going nowhere until after the 2015 season at the earliest. Coach D should get fired if Miami fails to field a top 30 defense this year.. There is talent and 4 and 5 star recruits on the defense except at DT..

The talent on this team has finally caught up with age and experience. I guarantee that this defense will dominate this season. Most of you guys are so blind with hate that you can't even see the issues that this team has faced over the last few seasons.

1. Lack of Upperclassman talent
2. Lack of experienced talent
3. Counting on too many Fr's and SO's
4 Guys in position to make play but not making the play.
5. Starters having to play on special teams because of the lack of depth.

Miami VS Virginia Tech
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asMkdYqNBdg

0:14 Jimmy Gaines does not play his assignment and leaves the middle open for a big gain. He is clearly in position to make the play and he simply does not

3:23 Tyrone Cornelius bites on the play action and leaves his zone wide open allowing the WR to get wide open for a easy 1st down and more.

4:08 Denzel Perryman is in perfect position to make a play and gets pancaked by the TE. Kacy Rodgers is also held on that play.

4:55 Shayon Green is in position to get the sack, but like so many other times he simply is not athletic enough to break down and make the tackle.

5:29 Justin Renfrow is blown off the ball on the goal line allowing the easy score.

7:25 Thurston Armbrister does not play his assignment and allows the FB to run free in the flats. This has nothing to do with coaching because Thurston actually covered the same exact play against UF and made a big play.

9:07 Shayon Green is supposed to set the edge but he is blocked inside and opens the outside for a big gain. Also Denzel Perryman does not attack the outside but he allows himself to be blocked 10 yards down the field.

9:15 AJ Highsmith has a clear shot at the RB but he misses the tackle by a mile.

12:11 Tracy Howard reads the play but is clearly blocked in the back.

13:28 on 3rd and 17!!! Both Deon Bush and Denzel Perryman have the guy wrapped up and fail to take him down resulting in a back breaking TD.

And the list goes on..... Plays were blown all season by guys who were in great position to make plays.

Well, the talent on the team hadn't caught up just a few months ago.

Between our last ***-whipping in our bowl game and kickoff, I'm not seeing a lot of talent getting experienced during the Summer.

As far as counting on too many Freshmen and Sophomores, have you read some of the ridiculous posts that plan on our success THIS season relying on Freshmen? We've been doing the same, identical thing - talking about relying on our freshmen to 'make' our season. You may get one or two able to step up, but I'm not seeing our freshmen carrying the team this year.

Our problems on defense weren't always on the player - but it was disheartening watching them run to a spot on the field - as they'd apparently been taught. Reacting badly while NOT in position has been killing us.

Starters on other teams - who oddly are the better players on the team - often do double duty on special teams.

I appreciate the effort, but to guarantee this defense will dominate - when it couldn't stop sunlight a few months ago - is kinda ambitious, don't you think?

That was horrible defense and offense. It's talent and scheme but whatever. Use to it now. I swear if I see open TEs and RBs and soft zone coverage in the first quater against Louisville I'm not watching the rest of the game

I began to lose confidence in AG when he could not fire his friend. This season will make or break him IMO. failing to win a coastal division championship, losing games we SHOULD win, getting embarrassed on a national stage, and fielding a defense/offense that is mediocre at best will have the fans calling for his head.

While I would love to see him succeed here, my doubts were fed when he could not fire his friend. Its hard to be optimistic about this season/this staff. Hope I am wrong but I have 10 years of evidence (3 years with this staff) as proof

Dorito is that you?

There are a lot of things that can be fixed with the scheme but lets not pretend like guys were not out there getting blown off the ball, taking bad angles, or missing tackles.

A few things about the scheme that I do hate.
1. Trying to 2 gap with short arm DT's is just stupid. You need long guys who are strong and know how to use their hands.
2. LB's playing 5 yards deep on goal line
3. The prevent style coverage that allows the underneath passing to be open all game.

These things can be fixed, now after that the players must make the plays. Defenders must be able to beat the man in front of them period, and if you watch the tape you will see a lot of one on one battles being lost by our guys. You put on any tape and you will see LB's, D-lineman, and even corners on roller skates. How many time did we see Tracy being controlled by one WR on a big run? Is that the scheme or is that Tracy not beating the guy in front of him?

You can not tell me that it's bad coaching if on one play Denzel sheds the blocker and makes a big hit, then on the very next play he is being blocked 10 yards down the field by one guys!!! That was Denzel not doing his job and winning the one on one battle.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NK9sLjJfLw

0:37 Tracy Howard is pancaked resulting in a TD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1Xy6c2QF6w

0:38 Tyrone Cornelius is dominated by the guard for the score.
5:03 Tyrone Cornelius misses a easy tackle that leads to a score

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAe40SUaJxY

2:26 Jimmy Gaines completely blows the play and allows the QB to run free. Note how Thurston Armbrister play the pitch perfectly, its Jimmy's job to play the QB in the read option and he simply blew it.

2:39 Jimmy Gaines doesn't even try to wrap the guy up, instead he tries to strip the ball resulting in a TD.

2:51 Justin Renfrow is blown off the ball and Chick over runs the play resulting in a huge hole. Then Tracy once again is pancaked resulting in a 20 yard gain.

3:07 Shayon Green gets blown off the ball on the goal line resulting in a easy TD.
