People that speak badly on pits are just ignorant as **** and I used to be like that. That’s until my roommate bought his gf a baby pit and she didn’t want it. So I was the one pretty much raising it because my friend wasn’t an animal type person. I raised that dog as my own and got very attached to her. That was the sweetest , most affectionate animal I’ve ever seen. Not a violent or mean bone in her body.

Now let’s say an ******* raised the same dog , being violent and abusive to her like the scum bag, trash that fight these dogs. I seriously doubt she’s the same animal I raised.

Dogs are a lot like people , environment and the home they are raised in has a big affect on them as adults.
Nature vs nurture?

I couldn't agree more with what you posted. I was in a similar situation as yours. That dog was the most loving, good natured dog I've ever been around, and I own a golden retriever.

Thats great what you did for that dog. Glad you had a good experience and took on that responsibility like a true owner. Weve had our offline discussion about dogs, I know how much they mean to you.

So your saying owners have a great impact in the outcome?

Soooooo

If you do your research and understand the breed better You would think differently and realize where that stigma and where those incidents originate

My sister use to breed them and had to move to Broward in order to keep them. She recently fostered and now adopted one that was abused and is the kindest dog you'd want to meet.

Trust me when I tell you I know more about this breed than you do. In fact, a Pitbull is not an actual breed.

Either way, I have a strong suspicion my next set of comments to help educate will fall on deaf ears. So I’ll just stop here. No need to respond. You are entitled to your opinion

Its gameday and JJ is visiting. Lets go!!!
Relax

I just posted an article. You will be ok.

I feel you. IMO it’s just that there are some breeds that really require competent owners. Pits are one of those breeds, along with German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Huskies, Rottweilers, etc. If the owner of any of those breeds is a POS, there’s a good chance that dog is going be have issues and/or be pent up with energy/anxiety. And unfortunately all types of incidents can happen if that dog is brought into the wrong situation or not looked after properly.
Of course those breeds would make your list. Animals know their own size, dude. A hyena will naturally flee from a lion whereas a lion will be aggressive against a hyena. Animals know size. A Rottweiler abused by a human will more likely defend itself and be aggressive before a dachshund would. Since the dachshund is significantly smaller than a human, it will more than likely cower whereas a bigger dog, like a Doberman will not. It matters. Also, you can't convince me that a pitty is more untrustworthy than a chihuahua.

Maybe my message wasn't clear or you just took offense to the breeds I listed...

FWIW, I grew up with a rescue German Shepherd and she was crazy, amazing dog but did not trust strangers and nipped a few people over the years. We were lucky not to have to put her down. I also have a 3 year old husky and while I'm proud of the job we've done with her, they are one of the most "returned" breeds because people don't realize how much work it is to properly raise them.

I love all dogs (especially large breeds) and I just think that too often people don't realize how much work it is to raise a good dog. My point was there are certain breeds that require a little more work and care than others, but it's much more a criticism of dog owners vs. the dogs.

I agree but according to the AKC, the easiest dogs to train are shepherds, dobermans, pitties, and rotties. they all make the top 15 breeds. According to the AKC, they are all good family dogs and they rate very high with affection and good with children. Yes, there are certain breeds that require more care and work than others, but not the breeds you mentioned.

I don't think it's quite that simple, but agree to (somewhat) disagree.

They are great family dogs and naturally obedient. But perhaps its because they are all large/strong breeds, they have the ability to inflict serious harm--which is why I feel they require responsible owners.

I think part of the issue with pits is that, more often than the other breeds, is that they aren't raised by responsible breeders who make sure their dogs are going to a good home. That's an opinion and not a fact, but I'd be willing to wager there are more AKC approved breeders for the other breeders you mentioned.
