More *****ing about the camps

camps used to be invite only and with the rule change they now have to make it open to the public. the top kids and those with offers will have it presented it to them that way. this is why you can't rely on camps solely for exposure as if you aren't on their list prior to the odds are you will be seen but not looked at.

probably why this kid liked the FAU camp is he was a top player there and got the love where he was just another kid with a dream at our camp and didn't like that other kids were getting the attention over him. happens all the time and this kid needs to take a new approach to his recruiting

My nephew is doing the recruiting process right now and one thing he was told that you should let the camp know you are coming before you arrive and it's best to go to camps you were invited to. In this case UM did invite my nephew to the camp (they invite a lot of kids), and he's reached out to the coaches to let them know he's coming.

But we did the U100 regional combine last weekend, and you could tell that the coaches on hand were focused on certain kids from the start. And I understand with kids you know or kids who physically look impressive that you focus more, but other kids are putting in good work and nobody is paying attention. Of course, you solve that problem by kicking *** in the one on ones.

correct and hats off to your nephew. too many of these kids solely rely on their talent with the "they will see" mentality and so often nothing comes out of it for the kids. recruiting for non elite level players is so different than BCS kids. the problem is the non elite kids don't know any better and think that things will pan out the same for them as it does for their BCS teammates. kids have to be proactive and don't know how to a lot as everyone has always rolled the red carpet out for them.

who is that guy? Don't give this jimmy rustler any attention.

that's what I said. Posting it here obviously expands the guys forum to players that read the site that prob don't have that guy on their twitter feed. I don't get posting it. I don't give a **** how bored you are.

Like I said to begin with though, I like Problem as a poster. We go back to AATU together but this just doesn't make sense to me.

Question is; is this guy credible or not?

The man is a quality journalist with a mastery of the English language........

@MiramarSports it depends on how much quality players they've got attended at their camp. But 3 though? Can't believe it

...with apparently no malice or bias against The U:

YOU GUYS REALIZE THAT THIS KID GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL LIKE TWO YEARS AGO RIGHT?

Its the typical b.s. from lower level guys that he may know that they "deserve" an offer for just showing up.....

Realize alot of these guys arent um fans anyway..their bandwagoners so they hop on whatever's new and d*ckride.

So.Fla works like that...i remember a time..(i was in high school) and Rutgers was down here snatching up alll kind of kids (Cristobal) had billboards up etc....then West Virginia stuck their head in....now the new craze is Louisville.

lol @ kis stating they aint learn "nothing" good.....good for those guys...i guarantee tyou they are kids that go to high schools that dont win "nothing"....private schools like American Heritage,Chaminade...or perennial garbage teams like Dr.Michael Krop, etc....GTFOH.....

After already going to 5 camps this summer with my son I can tell you that almost every camp is the same for the most part. There are little differences. Each one has its share of evaluations with a little bit of coaching from the actual position coach, and if you are a DB at Alabama camp it will be Saban chewing you out when you ***** up. The coaching staffs have their guys that they want in so the player can see how the staff coaches and become familiar.

As far as guys without offers at camps it is a crap shoot but it does help for their coach to call ahead.

As far as UM camp it's an average camp but the one thing I don't like is they do not allow a lot of competition between classes in one on ones. There is some but not a lot so an underclassman can get stuck with mediocre competition with a high school coach watching as opposed to the actual position coach.

What makes anyone think his comments are not accurate? Its clear that coach Golden puts more emphasis on recruiting at his camps than most D1 coaches do. Given that, it seems very plausible that the staff would spend more time evaluating the cream of the crop than working with the mid-level kids.

Different coaches use camps for different reasons. UF uses their Friday Night Lights camp as a PR tool. Not so much for talent evaluation but rather for bringing in targets that are already sighted and trying to shmoozing them. Allot of lower level programs use their camps for revenue generation. Those are the camps where mid-level HS kids can get some good instruction.

What basis, at all, do you have for your first paragraph?

By all accounts our coaches do a lot of teaching at the camps. I realize we use them as recruiting tools, but who doesn't?

The basis is explained in that very same paragraph. I made no definitive statements, only that it seems plausible that the "UM coaches" would spend more time with the elite level kids because coach Golden puts more emphasis on evaluating potential offerees than most other major programs. Seems self explanitory.

Now I axe you, what is your basis for saying this: "By all accounts our coaches do a lot of teaching at the camps."

I have not seen any accounts where people talk about the quality instruction by "UM coaches." There are typically other coaches working the camps (usually local HS coaches). My guess is that they are the ones who spend time with the mid-level kids passing along the instruction. Unless I read the OP wrong, I thought the kid was *****ing about "UM coaches" not giveing much instruction to the mid level kids.

Again, Im working off my understanding of these camps from when I worked them back when I was an athlete at Fresno State back in the mid-80s. Hence, you've seen no definitive statements from me on this. I have not attended any Golden camps personally and cannot speak to it at that level.

SFbayCane is right most schools have high school coaches working the camp. The college coaches at that particular college work with the kids that have been offered or have the potential to be offered in the coming years. This is how is works at almost all major programs though not just Miami.

If you go to UF's camp you are not going to see Joker Phillps working with a whole bunch of 5'8 WR's who run a 5 sec 40. He is going to work with a player that they feel has a chance to play at UF.

If you go to Bama's camp you are not going to see Saban given some ****** DB's attention either he is looking for future talent that has been invited to camp not the kids who just show up.

To be honest I watched Saban get into a half star prospect who was playing safety at camp. I hate to say this but Saban is an exception.

Except we do 5 camps, a bunch of coaches can see a bunch of prospects (even darrell langham 2 star) because he stood out.

These camps allow the coaches to get honest measurements (40 time, height, weight etc.) and the best kids will stand out whether 5 star or no star.

When was Langam a 2 star? Miami saw him during spring evals too. I dont think Miami does anything different than any other school they just have all of there camps on the weekend. Where other programs have them through out the week.

He was a 2 star on rivals and is today. We have camps only on the weekend and there are 5 of them.

We offered him at the camp after personal evaluation too, we could have looked at film since his he was a fetus.

Watch out for the Joker!
