Mobile QB Put To Rest

It's not that a mobile QB would "solve" Oline issues, it's that it would almost certainly help AND without question gives a any offense an added threat in general. That extra dimension stresses defenses and wins games every single week in cfb. The easiest example is when it's 3rd and long, everyone is covered, yet the QB breaks free for a first down run. Rips the heart out of a defense. Which says nothing about designed runs with an extra blocker, etc.

And by the way, while UH had 11 sacks last night, it would've been even worse with a statue back there. I mean, Kaaya might have been sacked 20+ times if you swapped him in, no exaggeration.

Jackson - 3 fumbles, 3rd down efficiency 8-21, 4th down efficiency 2-4. So that extra dimension means nothing if the OL can't block the DL.

Been trying to educate the rubes on here. The NFL record book for most sacks in a season is dominated by mobile QBs.

Mobile QBs tend to get sacked more often because they try to extend plays with their legs instead of making the quick read or throwing it away.

A legit question is: Why didn't Petrino change his protection when his QB kept getting decked? Looked an awful lot like Richt trying to force something instead of adjusting.

I'd take a QB that can take a step or two and still make a throw. Kaaya is horribly inaccurate if he's forced to move an inch. Heck, if he THINKS he has to move an inch he loses accuracy.

Well ****, for once we agree Franchise. I just knew at a minimum that I was going to get a "N" and a negative vote from you.... You know what they have said about Kayaa's mobility thus far can you imagine what they would say if he had 3 fumbles and sacked 11 times in one game??? I just can't believe how blind these fans are after seeing everything that they asked for on display.

This isn't calculus. If a mobile quarterback gets sacked 11 times, what do you think will happen with a statue back there?

We all have seen it. A statue QB doesn't have 3 fumbles and get sacked 11 times! These stats have to be close to a record recorded in a single game.

This assumes a mobile QB takes less sacks because he's faster which is rarely the case. A QB can be slow as molases yet still rarely get sacked. Dan Marino hardly ever got sacked. He learned to process info fast and get rid of the ball faster.

Yes, let's take one game's result and apply it across the board.

A mobile qb doesn't solve all your problems especially an Oline problem, but a mobile qb definitely helps extend plays and pick up yards when necessary. Sure a great drop back pocket passer can do the same but to use that argument in defense of brad kaaya is laughable at best.

Moral to the story: You need more than mobility to avoid sacks.

Immobile QBs with good pocket presence, the ability to process information quickly, a quick release, and the ability to make small movements in the pocket ala Marino and Manning and Brady are much better at avoiding sacks than a mobile QB who lacks one or more of those listed abilities.

Best thing a mobile QB gives you is an extra runner in the run game which puts extra stress on a defense.

The sack thing is debunked by clear stats and is a folly for dopes to hang their giant dopey headed hats on.

Agree. I think where OP messed up his argument at least from what I understood it, was in trying to defend kaaya with that argument. Kaaya is a bad example of the point he was trying to make IMO.

We don't need a dual threat qb after kaaya ... we need one that can feel pressure and be able to create plays when it's not there. Jamie's Winston isn't fast or slow for that matter but he extends the play and makes something out of nothing which is a special quality for a qb. We need that. Perry can do it. He just has to put on more weight. **** winston when he got to fsu was 195 and in his redshirt year he put on 40 pounds

Dont get it fked up either ed oliver ehem 5 star is a savage and can play anywhere in the country and start right now

No Sir... You guys have been crying insert a mobile QB (Jackson, Perry) and the OL play would look much better. Well this game just happens to be a carbon copy of our OL during the four game stretch. You can accept the answer however you feel most comfortable receiving it but the root answer is still the same mobile QB means nothing if the OL does not block. DC's will reduce a mobile QB to a runner in every instance. And an offense will fail long-term relying on the QB as a runner to win games. The defense will let you run for a first down here or there but when that QB has to carry that offense the length of the field he will fail long-term.
