MOAR Camp Notes

Love the depth we have at CB right now, please just give us a pass rush and we are going to be a whole lot better against the pass.

Olsen Pierre on which of the new guys has impressed him the most first 2 days: "Gilbert from Wisconsin. He's fast, strong and very physical"

Praise Jeebus! Been saying since we got him that he's the most important addition to the team this year.

I said it first.

Is your name Kugler?

Do you mean the "Greatest Hurricane Fan?"

I read somewhere that he was just that--The Greatest Hurricane Fan.

Great to hear, he made that nice play in the camp video #10

at 2:24 mark

http://youtu.be/bCQbKQ-8vh4

Around 2:00 is that Standish beating Bush to the corner?

Edit: yeah Olsen to Standish but I don't know if that was Bush

I know it was Standish The Mandish because everywhere he runs he leaves a plume of orange and green smoke. That dude is Mr. Hurricane of the 2013 class.

Yeah it was Deon Bush in that yellow jersey going against Standish.... i'm not worried about Bush he just has to get fully healthy and get adjusted to playing at game speed again.

But Standish is a fast TE, i saw his high school highlights the other day and he was blowing past everybody.

Malcolm Lewis looking good - nice and quick on that catch and run - hopefully he is 100% in a few weeks.

The Beast's report from camp today (CI).

Canes Camp Report by The Beast 8-15-13 Some Breaking news and MONEY QUOTES!

Just two news items to get up while I'm compiling today's report

1. Gus Edwards is not with the team right now due to clearinghouse issues...we are not exactly sure on the specifics ..we will get them to you as soon as we learn of them...he's expected to be back with the team next week

2. Al said that QB Preston Dewey WILL be back with the team shortly..Al insisted Preston will be on the team..he's been gone for camp for "personal reasons."

Some other news...

We did not get to,see any of practice today due to the weather and the fact that the team practiced on the IM fields..

Team will scrimmage tomorrow night...performance in tomorrow's scrimmage will be major factor in deciding who makes the travel roster.

Now quotes

Al

On scrimmage - "it's time to cut the cord with some of these guys. It can't be about yelling from the sideline. They are going to have crowd noise and music. They are going to have to learn the signals. They have to be independent thinkers out there. They have to work collectively. We'll see who can play.

On improving tackling - "We have to get the tackling squared away fast. That will rare it's head in the opener. There's no question. You don't want to be a day late on that. A bad tackling performance in an opener can destroy you.

On improving the passing completion percentage: " There's no excuse for the completion percentage to be the way it is. With the experience that we have, with the protection that we are getting, and the quarterback that we have leading us, there's no excuse for that. That was dissapointed and we have to get it fixed."

"I'm worried about everything. We have a long way to go as a team, and there's a lot of practices between nowmandmgame week."

On Preston Dewey : " He'll be with us shortly. We're respecting his time and his privacy.

On Gus Edwards: "Gus has got to take care of a couple clearinghouse issues. There's nothing, from an academic standpoint, that he's deficient in. It's just a clearinghouse deal. " ( CaneSport.com is reporting that Gus will be back with the team on Tuesday.)

On De'Andre Jordan (RB from Iowa): " I like him. He's got a lot to learn as far as how we do it here, and the offense. He wants to be a great teammate. He wants to compete. He's trying to get in on special teams. He's got the requisite speed. He's got a good build. (198). Guys like that have been awesome on the team and have always played a roll for us." (Note: He played at Iowa Valley Ellsworth Community College last year after leaving Iowa. He is a junior and should be good to go to play this year. He does have a few issues in his past, which you can read about here: http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/63443/iowa-dismisses-deandre-johnson "
De'Andre Johnson's stats from JUCO Three games...338 rushing yards 4 TDs on 73 carries..avg 112.7

Denzel Perryman

On Tackling : "We noticed it during our team periods, it's perimeter stuff...inside, outside ...we have a lot of cutback running backs so a lot of time we over run the ball carrier or have the wrong leverage."

Need to work on :" We need to get to thenpointnwhere all 11 guys get tot the ball, not just 7 or 8. We need to get consistent."

On Grace : "he's starting to get it."

Duke

On De'Andre Johnson - "He's a great back. He's a big back that can also move. He also knows the playbook. He fits right in with everybody."

On limiting his touches : " They are going to tell me when it's time to stop ( come out of the game). If we are down, there's no way I'm coming out. If we need big plays and we need to score, I'm not going to just come out and sit around and watch us be down. But if we have a lead and coach thinks its best for me to come out, I'll come out.

Beau Sandland

On knowing about Miami growing up : " Every body knows about Miami. Every body knows about The U, all the national championships, all the guys in the NFL, the tradition, the Orange Bowl. You know a kid from L.A. Knowing about a team from all the way across the country speaks to the legacy."

On his body "I came in at 254 and 20 % body fat. Now I'm 256 and 15% body fat. I lost 11 pounds of fat and gained eight pounds of muscle."

On him, Clive and Asante : " Clive and Asante take first team reps exclusively. I take both first and second team reps. When we go jumbo package they need three tight ends. We all get equal amount of reps."

On his blocking : "In high school and junior college I really didn't do much blocking. In high school I played WR and in junior college we played the spread. I think when I came in I envisioned myself as a receiving tight end. I've become more balanced now and can do both (block and catch.)

How good can the TEs be - "I think we have a solid group of tight ends here."

Allen Hurns

On WRs helping the QB - "We have to be precise in our routes. If you have to be at 14 yards, be at 14. "

On young receivers "They are stepping up a lot. I don't even see Herb as a young guy any more. He's like a veteran. Jontavious has stepped up a lot, as has D'Mauri ."

Asante

On TEs last year : " I feel like we came together, but a little late."

On TE role in offense - "You can tell that we've become the first or second read on some of these plays."

Clive Walford

On his career at UM : " I feel like everyday I'm getting better at something"

"Last time I ran the 40, I was a 4.6 but that was two years ago and I'm,pretty sure I've gotten faster. (Says his weight is 259)

SteMo

On TEs " to have the opportunity to have our TEs be our first or second read. 1. It helps the tight ends because they know they'll be getting the ball. As well as getting used to throwing the ball to them.

On pass comp % : "I just think the best way to fix that is to take what the defense gives you. Just all camp we have been stressing accuracy. We're trying to be 75% at the end of the day. We have to do the little things right."

On his footwork - "I've been continuing to improve in the pocket. I've been continuing to improve my footwork. Everything will come after that."

On Ryan Williams "I know that if I ever went down, Ryan could go in and do his thing for me. I'm excited for him. My goal is to do well this season but also help the guys behind me."

On Gray and Kevin: " Gray is a lot more outspoken. Kevin is a lot ore laid back and quiet. On the field Kevin and GRAY both have a good arm."

Matt Porter @mattyports
Duke raises a People's Eyebrow to me when I asked which #Canes LB has the best shot to chase him down: "Chase ... me ... down?"
Bringing back the Skeptical Duke meme:

Also found it comical yet sad that when they said, "last question," that cousin it, asked, "what's the schedule going to be like for the next 2 weeks?"

You can tell that Golden seems to visibly restrain himself from going off on her. I'm just waiting for him to yell,

"You stupid biitch! Drag you ugly *** back under the causeway and wash some more windows."
