ACC>>>>Big 3
I thought winning a championship was considered glory?
I agree they're overrated - but the since they were given sanctions in 2012, Penn St. has:
- Won more games than Miami
- Had a 10 win season
- Gone to their Conference Championship
- Won a Bowl game
- Beat a Top 10 team
- At least been in the conversation about the Playoffs
They fact they've done all those things that Miami hasn't done is embarrassing
They are Fool's Gold, but they also didn't worry about a cloud. They were actually down scholarships a few years, as was USC,but didn't b itch about a cloud and run a read and react defense!
I keep trying to wrap my brain around this, but I have no answers. how in the world has Penn State returned to glory before Miami, after what happened to that program? 3 coaches in 5 years, hellified sanctions, and defections from the team, left and right. After all that, this team is snipping at the heels on the fricken playoffs and a Big Ten Title
That team is young and talented, and Franklin has proven to be an excellent coach and motivator
What sanctions? Pedo St were let off the hook.
Exactly. They had temporary sanctions. While Miami's weren't that bad, it was the three years of not knowing what was going to happen that truly hurt. It gave certain programs an opportunity to negatively recruit, and it's hard enough when you have a mediocre(at best) staff, but they were then further behind the eight ball.
I think its pretty easy to know the reasons. 1 al golden is bad coach, franklin and bill Obrien were good coaches. Obrien recruited very well, franklin won at vandy. richt is in year 1 while franklin is in yr 3 and Miami has had the tougher schedule the last 5 yrs for the most part as penn state prior to this year managed to avoid Michigan, Michigan state and I believe Wisconsin. the rest of the big 10 minus ohio state is a jokeI agree they're overrated - but the since they were given sanctions in 2012, Penn St. has:

Because Franklin is on his THIRD year while Richt is in year one? lmao.
Franklin went 7-6 his first year. And his second. You would have fired his *** before this year's "return to glory" if you were running PSU. Dumbass.

Their administration actually cares about the football program. In fact, they care so much that they covered up a child rapist just because he was a football coach. They've spent money on hiring their coaches. First an NFL assistant with Superbowl rings and then on the biggest name up and comer at the time.
Meanwhile at Miami...Shalala cheaped out on everything athletically related. They hired two bum coaches (3 if you go back far enough for Coker) simply because they were the cheapest available. It hasn't been until now that Miami has a President willing to spend on football necessities like a competent coaching staff and an indoor practice facility. Miami has literally been playing with one arm tied behind it's back for the past decade.
Besides, let's be real. Miami was a couple lucky bounces away from being 10-2 and Penn State was a couple unlucky bounces away from being 8-4. It's not like they've built some powerhouse.

This narrative on Shalala is so ****ing stupid and the only time I ever hear it, it's on this website. We were after Richt every time there was an opening with Shalala. We were on the verge of hiring Schiano or Mullen, both of whom had been candidates under Shalala.
Our administration and their willingness to do anything athletically related is unchanged. The only change was Mark Richt fell into our lap. That's why we are optimistic about the future. That's why we are getting an IPF.
For all of you Frenk slurpers, do you think we'd be getting an IPF had we hired Schiano?

If Shalala was actually willing to spend money on coaches, why did she cheap out and hire the discount coach every time? You think it's 100% coincidence that as soon as they hired a new president, the buyout for Golden was no longer an issue? Nor was drastically raising the budget in regards to head coaches and assistants' salaries? You're literally the only person I've ever heard on this board or anywhere else who believes Shalala cared about the football team winning big. As long as those ACC television contract checks kept coming in, she couldn't care less if the football team went 6-6 every year.

I'm saying Frenk cares the same amount about the program as Shalala did. Everyone has said on this forum hundreds of times that his buyout was enormous the prior year and that it went down the year Frenk was hired, so yes it was a coincidence. The same f'ing candidates were considered/interviewed so tell me what the difference was. I have yet to hear one good argument.

You think the asking price for a guy like Mullen was the same as Golden's? Do you think when they interviewed "the same f'ing candidates" prior to hiring Golden they chose him simply based on body of work and the fact that he'd be one of the lowest paid P5 coaches had nothing to do with it? Do you think Richt would have taken the Miami job if the coaching staff budget was as pathetically low still? You can believe what you want but the fact is, as soon as Frenk took the position, the overall budget for the football program blew up. Maybe it was totally coincidence but I find that hard to believe.
