I know these cross-skin color comparisons are usually not allowed, but when I've watched Harley, he actually reminds me of Cole Beasley, slot WR for Cowboys. We really need a short area guy who can work option routes and help us move the sticks. I thought Berrios would be that guy, but they currently play him outside as if he were Alshon Jeffery.
Why do you think we dont use berrios in the slot more?
My best guess is they were trying to get the best matchups for Coley, who is really good out of the slot, actually. They did some stuff in fall practice where Coley would clear out and guys like Berrios or Njoku would benefit underneath. In real games, starting with FSU, Berrios just could not gain separation on in breaking routes and doesn't have the size to box DBs out like other WRs can. He doesn't have the long speed or the size/separation to play outside.
Sometimes i think our coaches just didn't know our players well enough to start the season. But, Berrios is still playing outside (and caught a long ball against Duke), so they obviously see something there I'm not seeing. Against top teams in meaningful games, I expect him to be consistently overmatched out there. Bring him inside and let him use his toughness.
