Miami's defensive staff vs the competition (Recruiting).

The Bag man is definitely real, and it's definitely part of the reason we lose out on top recruits. Just think about for a minute....this is Miami....

There is going to be a real battle between Georgia and Bama for one kid: Clay Webb. (5* O/L) Bama thought they had him wrapped up but then he quietly went to Georgia's "Reveal" last weekend. Now Kirby thinks he's got the one up on this kid. We know who will make out in the end here - the kid. bigger question is will one of them get sloppy and stupid in their quest to win...

Every recruiting thread on the UGA 247 board has some sort of calculation on who they have to sign to "beat" Bama for the #1 class. It's become the obsession

I mean with our staff now. We get a offensive staff that knows how to recruit and all of a sudden the offensive bag men magically disappear

Bama got Jeudy in 2017

The offensive staff has had their share of loses as well.

Maybe my memory is wrong but I don't remember every recruit loss come down to bags explanation.

Henderson - walked out of the all star games and got chewed out by Rumph for it
Edwards - wanted to work with a coach who announced the day after signing day he was going to the NFL
Asante Samuel Jr - waited too long to prioritize him
Trevon Grimes - grew up an ohio state fan

Those are just off the top of my head.

It is a hand full of high level recruits that get 100s of pages discussing what happened and trying to figure it out.

As far as people not knowing some of the players going to the league from UM, or getting coached up, that is fine if those new recruits come from other areas. Though I would guess that many of these examples would probably be known locally because they were probably doing good in high school somewhere in the area and not that long ago. Some of the recruits probably played with or against names being brought up. I do say this not knowing who came from what school so maybe all the people getting put into the NFL and improving in their college play come from out of state?

There are several reasons. I can certainly agree that some of the coaches might not be the best salesmen. Might be looked on as new. That people do want to see someplace else. That people want a more rural area and/or a college town. Though it seems there are people who just refuse to believe that money could also be part of things for some. Even with the slips and rumors going around.

Coach makes valid points but I am not buying. This staff has overcome that "resume" argument against other elite schools. Even pulled Hall vs. Bama and Frierson vs. UGA.

At what point do we stop blaming "The Bag Man" and just admit that we got out recruited?

Believe it or not, some staffs can actually recruit really well.

Sure they can Coach, though it always seems ironic to me that the very best always seem to come with a booster network we can only dream about.

Let me know when one of these stellar coaches start pulling top 10 classes at Vanderbilt or Georgia Tech.

Our staff can go up vs any staff in the country. But with the elites when they bring up NC, that’s something they cannot compete with. We have 2 elite recruiters on offense but we need one on defense. Currently we don’t have one. Looks like every ally coach Simpson and Banda could be elite.

@Coach Macho is right. These kids just plain are not convinced that they can develop and win with our green coaches, and won’t be until we start playing and winning on an elite level.

I love our young coaches and the work they are putting in to these younger kids is starting to pay off, but right now it is what it is. Kids need to be convinced they can win here. These sophomores and juniors need to see guys they went to school with ball out for The U.

There’s a new podcast thread over on eye in the sky. Listen to it. Banda acknowledges this fact.
Actually thought it was a pretty cool podcast

Georgia is paying.

I've heard it from three Power 5 coaches (different programs), high school coaches and high school players. It is a fact and they are being blatant about it.
And to act like this isn't a factor in blue chip kids' recruitments is naive.

Yall act like our staff is full of solidified dudes. LOL

Our staff is full of green a$$ coaches.
It is NOT crazy to believe that they occasionally get their a$$ handed to them on the recruiting trail. (without bags)

None...and I mean none of them...have a solid reputation or resume for developing players and/or recruiting.
Miss me with the Rumph talk, he ain't been in the game long enough.
Banda? Fvck no.
Simpson? Just came off the high school field.
Diaz? Nope. Although he seems very likeable. Probably a decent recruiter. Inventing the chain helps.

Look at that defensive staff! LMAO
You MF's really think that staff is hard to recruit against without bags?
Who the **** are these guys? Like really, look at the big picture. In the football world, who the **** are these coaches? Not a single one of them hold any clout in the coaching world. Other than Diaz, all of them are peons in the coaching world, and even Diaz is not a hot name.

I like them. But I'm a Miami fan.
We're not recruiting Miami fans.
I'm speaking on an outsider's perspective.

Winning would counteract this issue.

Good post. No sense bickering over a blame game when recruits sign elsewhere, but everything you said here is true. Canes fans have a different perspective than your average fickle myopic recruit. I'm confident that Rumph and Simpson will hold clout in the near future. Diaz still has a lot to prove on the field to be a selling point besides the Chain.

You have to be either naive or a super homer to argue that our coach's resumes are on par with other major programs.
When you have to use Adrian fvckin' Colbert to support your argument, that's all that needs to be said.

Good news is, it'll change after another good defensive season.
Nothing you’re saying is outlandish .. it is what it is we do have a lot of green coaches, the only one that I still have a verdict out on is Searles but these past two seasons I really don’t mind what we have they’ve shown they can coach kids up and I think another season will bolster that

But I really do think bags are a huge factor with some kids man

As stated, anyone who was sold on our staff in 2016 is bull chitting. The only ones we were sold on were Brown and Kul, and that was based upon their resumes.

Hartley has been a SUPER pleasant surprise, but let's not act like cats weren't clowning him day one, even comparing his photo to Mr. Burns.

We yelled and screamed when FSU Dugans came on board, and now I wouldn't trade that dude for nobody.

We were screaming and scratching when we hired Diaz, pointing to his time at Texas. We wanted Aranda.

Rumph?? The guy who dissed his alma mater to his kids at AH now coming on board?? We wanted Corey Raymond

Banda?? What the F was a Banda?? But some did give him a pass b/c of his wife, so we figured if he could recruit her, certainly he can recruit kids! Lol.

Let's not re-write history b/c we've had some success. The fact is our team has been trash for 10+ years. The stench of Shapiro still roamed. The stench of Golden is still prevalent to a certain degree....and we had green recruiters with unproven backgrounds.

Winning cures a lot and changes perceptions, but I know fa sho not only have bags played apart, but we have been negatively recruited against b/c of our staff. How do I know, you ask? B/c my boy's little relative just committed to play at Oregon, and he was teammates w/ Jaiden Woodbey.

We win, we send Mike Jackson to the 1st round, we have JJ drafted as an All American, and our DB perception will change drastically.

"Hi my name is Ephram Banda and I have several former players who might get some playing time in the NFL next season."

"Hi my name is Kirby Smart and I'm a National Championship DC and have 942 players contributing in the NFL."

"Yeah well I developed Jaquan Johnson, and he's regarded as one of the top Safeties in the NCAA."

"I just competed for a National Championship last season."
"Hi my name is Kirby Smart and I'm a first time HC figuring out how to do this **** without Richt's experienced players"

"Hi my name is Mark Richt and I have 15 years of experience being a HC in the SEC and I'm going to take over the ACC"

UGA's success in recruiting?
I think it definitely adds up. They just competed for a National Championship and they have a "Saban protege" at Head Coach.

They've always recruited pretty well.

And they're dropping bags all over South Florida. There are times we have been out recruited but to continue to lose local kids to business decisions means they're getting paid IMO.

Georgia is the trendy school right now. They have waaaaaaay more buzz going for them than we do.

A 3 loss year for Kirby would take the edge off.

Is it a trendy school because they are UGA and they have a "tradition of winning titles" or are as Dmoney stated, they are just paying players? And what buzz? Everyone is still talking about the same 2 schools..Bama and Clemson. Its arguable.

We don't lose every recruit due to bags.

But Tyrique is getting bought, **** even Georgia fans openly admit it. So I'm not sure why you're trying to deny it.

Kevin Harris was also pretty obviously bought. Some other kids, sure, the staff got outrecruited, Jordan Battle is one of them

Yep. Kirby signed the #3 ranked class after going 8-5 in year 1, and they had zero players drafted that year. I'd love to see the bag deniers explain that one
