Horrible offensive play calling.
8 guys in the box? Run it up the middle. Over and over and over...
Duke finally has good back to back runs to make it third and short? Sub him out for Gus Edward's first run of the season in a critical situation when Gus has never shown to be a tough yardage back even though he's huge.
He finally does it again? Sub him out again for Gus with the exact same result. Gus may be huge but he needs space to operate, he's not a bruiser. His nice catch and run on third down at the end of the game showed what he does.
Walford catches a nice deep pass then another for our only score? Don't throw it to him for another two quarters.
Run speed reverses to the short side of the field.
Regula should never be on the field playing FB, the guy doesn't block anything.
I'm amazed to say that our defense actually looked decent, got pressure, and forced some huge turnovers deep in their territory. Our offense just couldn't capitalize and rarely sustained drives so the D was gassed in the second half and it cost us.
Anyone saying this loss has anything to do with Kaaya is a moron. Offensive playcalling and oline performance are what killed us and we were still in the ball game in the fourth until the refs made that retarded call on Duke's catch (a beautiful find and throw by Kaaya). I don't know the rule, but the guy wasn't doing **** and had zero effect on the play so I don't care what the rule is don't call it. Even the announcers said it was a bad call and the announcers hate us.
Some positives: Kaaya to Berrios looked good twice until Coley stopped calling pass plays. Duke on the wheel route. The defensive line seems much improved but we don't know how good Louisvilles oline is. Perryman is an animal thank god he stayed. No injuries. Kaaya has balls and can stand in and take a hit, he also didn't seem to force much until things started getting out of reach. Clearly had jitters and threw a few bad balls but what did you expect.
