Miami Total Defense 1999-2013

I thought the 2nd DC under Shannon was good. (his name slips my mind, Tubberville recommended him)
Shannon's problem was hiring Nix. That destroyed his career.
The same way D'Onofrio is going to destroy Goldens.

Bill Young? Or John Lovett?

Bill Young was good, although a little blitz crazy. For the love of god I don't even want to hear about Lovett again. He played some soft *** defense like Dnofrio's, except his players at least were in better position and not 20 yards deep every play.

Bill Young, :nelsonhaha:

What's the old looney tune doing?

I bet he's sacking his old lady and great grand kids.

I updated the chart in the OP to include the scoring defense rank for the given years.

EDIT: I made a couple mistakes and updated the chart.

Also, for those interested I graphed the PPG allowed for the same time period.

What this graph shows me is that there is a direct correlation between yards allowed and pts scored. Can someone show this to coach d. It appears you can't have one without the other.

We may not have the horses to compete with FSU on defense but you can't convince me Duke has better athletes on D than we do and they dominated VT in Lane.

U r spouting internet myths. How do u dominate someone going 0-11 on 3rd downs getting out gained 400-200. Passing 7-26 for 100 yds and throwing 4 ints. Nice try though.

I was talking strictly about the defense, not sure how you couldn't tell. But dominate was still probably the wrong word. The yardage they gave up is deceiving for the exact reasons you mentioned, they were on the field the entire game.

Duke's offense is not their defense and in fact you are making a stronger case for the discussion because it shows Duke's defense shut down VT while their offense did everything they could to help VT. So if VT can dominate our defense and our offense was not great, but still better than Duke's was against VT, but they got shut down by Duke, even when Duke's offense sucked, then it makes a stronger case that our offense is not to blame for our defensive issues like some here would like to believe. Our offense is struggling, but they are not our biggest problem.

Duke allowed 4.6 ypp to VT

We allowed over 7 ypp.

Not to mention Duke was getting VTs all for 4 quarters where as VT took the 4th quarter off against us.

What's the point. I wasn't defending our play and allowing 4,6 isn't some great number. I'm just saying that people keep acting like duke dominated vt because they won. Vt threw 4 ints as we'll and I have no idea the reason for them and neither does anyone else. They allowed 400 yds and caused 4 ints. Could u imagine what they would have put up if vt didn't turn it over.
