That is one of the saddest things.....

We've always been accustomed to great defense but as of late we are literally in a league with the Idaho's and new Mexico's of the world
 
Of course we weren't this bad during the latter Coker and then Shannon years. We always had a good defense. Even the '07 team, which was a cluster**** of utter proportions on so many **** levels, aside from a couple of bad games, had a decent to good defense.

and our ranking this year is so misleading. Still might go up by the end of the year too.

So, we're trending in the right direction?

BTW, I realize that was not the OP's message and I think our 2013 stats are skewed by the Savannah St. game. I expect our defensive ranking to get worse by the end of the year.

during the shannon years, we might had more talent, but we didnt develop it and some of that talent went on to be better in the NFL than at UM.

during the last few years, we have had poor talent.
 
Jimmy and joes folks not x and os....

what NFL guys came out of the era..even Coach Shannon had NFL guys ( even if they played like **** here)...

who is as good as C. Cambell, or Spence, or C.Mac,...Harris was a solid DB here, S, Shields we all know that story...

who on these last 3 years has made an impact in the NFL on Defense...and who do see leaving this year that teams are drooling over ? Porter, our best Dl..who has done nothing,
Highsmith...really? starters by the way.

now next year..tracey, bush, Mccord a few others will be nfl guys...but not now...

we are weak as **** still.

Here is what is frustrating to me. Shannon did not have that much to work with when he took over from Coker either. We had a couple 5 star busts and other guys who just never met expectations. Sure a lot of that is about player development. I blame Randy and Coker for this. With that said, even with a bunch of busts on the team, and starting a lot of young players in his first couple years Shannon's defense never was worse than 33 in overall defense and was getting better each year. Offense was the bigger issue under Shannon and is the reason we fell off completely.

The argument that Golden does not have talent is weak. They might not be superstars, but there is enough talent that we should not be as bad as we are on defense. Let's move on from the talent issue, because Golden has had 2 solid classes and we are in year 3 of player development.

People keep saying the offense can't stay on the field and is wearing out the defense. Anyone here remember Shannon's first year? Our offense was significantly worse and our defense was actually wore out to the point where hands were always on the hips and guys would be useless by the 4th quarter, but according to this chart we were still better than any year of our current defense.

if there was ever a striking slap in the face, that graph is one.

we have talent right now that is at least as good as the 2007-2008 period. there is an OBVIOUS and STRIKING systemic problem that starts with the coaches.

it is plain as day
 
the 2007 roster was PATHETIC

go back and look at the DL. it was terrible.

AG/Dorito suck donkey ****. end of story. only question is can AG get rid of Dorito and replace him with someone that is good or will AG go down with Dorito, or is AG completely incompetent?

yea...Campbell , Merriweather, Kenny Phillips, Beason, ...some NFL pro bowlers there...but 07 was bad

Spence and Harris were both players that Randy recruited and developed (since everyone is always bashing Randy for it). They were freshman that Randy brought in and therefore are no better than any new players that Golden has brought in. Guess what, they were getting significant playing time as freshman and looked good in the process.

Campbell was gone after a year with Shannon

Mccarthy was 2 years I believe and was a tackling machine.

Sam Shields was just not developed and was a WR every year until the last.

Now you used Campbell and CMAC as holdovers from Cokers classes as Randy's guys he had. Well, that means you have to include Harris and Spence as Shannon holdovers that Golden used and our defensive numbers were still worse.
