Winter Park three-star athlete Jordan Pouncey told 247Sports on Wednesday that he has backed off his pledge to Notre Dame and is reopening his recruitment.
The news comes just a week after the Hurricanes offered Pouncey a scholarship and less than 24 hours after a report came out that Irish associate head coach Mike Denbrock was leaving South Bend to be the offensive coordinator at Cincinnati.
"With my guy, Coach Denbrock, likely leaving, he was the one who was supposed to coach me, and if he is not at Notre Dame anymore, I want to find someone else to play for," said Pouncey told 247Sports' Tom Loy.
"He was my position coach. He is the one that gave me a chance and pushed hard for me. Now, there is just too much uncertainty. It could be a new guy that comes in that I've never heard of. They could bring in a guy that doesn't feel strongly about me like Coach Denbrock did. I just want to find the most comfortable fit, rather than be stuck with a coach that may not have my best interest at heart."
Pouncey claims no leaders at the moment, but multiple people in Coral Gables have told InsideTheU that the Hurricanes feel like they have gained some traction in recent days with the nation's No. 106 wide receiver on the 247Sports Composite.
"Me and [Miami wide receivers coach Ron Dugans] have had a good relationship," Pouncey said a few weeks ago.
Pouncey (6-2, 185) is expected to take multiple official visits next month. Both Texas and Florida are also involved in his recruitment.
