I’d bet my life Mario called Schiano and vetted this dude. Worked for him in 2022 and 2023 coaching linebackers.

I’ll admit I don’t know much about him, he’s only been an FBS DC for a year but it was at the P4 level and the defense was excellent.

5th in the country in yards per play allowed
9th in scoring defense
Defended the pass very well, top 20 in passer rating allowed and yards per pass allowed.
Not very good on 3rd down, 68th in the country.

Didn’t play Oregon or taint in the big 10 but did play Penn state and only gave up 350 yards, which was 70 less than their average.

Greg is a mentor to Mario. Given the gravity of this hire, I’m positive Mario consulted with Greg. Guessing he said, this guy is what I was to Butch 25 years ago.

If Mario is going to take advice, it’s going to be from Greg Schiano. When Butch hired Schiano, he was a position coach for the Bears. I would take his advice seriously.

I mean it's Minnesota. I knew a kid being recruited for wrestling years back, he went there and was said I dont think I can handle that cold. they then send Brock Lesner to his house to personally recruit him lol.

I saw interviews with the guy talking about how hard it was recruiting at the schools he started out at, who knows. I prefer a recruiter but our problem losing kids this year was guidry and his scheme.
