effective for 25-26 season no more 85 scholarships but a roster limit of 105I have not kept track.
Don't speak to soon. When Daddy (SEC) decided to stick with 85, watch the kids follow. The ACC and Big 12 are the kids. The SEC and B1G are making all of the decisions. We just have to follow, lucky to get our 1 playoff spot.effective for 25-26 season no more 85 scholarships but a roster limit of 105
Candidly with the portal I dont think it matters anymore. Before someone like Saban would have wanted the increase so he can hoard all the talent and keep developing players. But now? I doubt we are even at 85 and the bottom 10% of rosters likely are guys never seeing the field unless something went horribly wrong. Only 22 can be on the field so the other 70+ players not starting or getting serious time likely dip after the yearDon't speak to soon. Don't need a huge sidebar here, after 3 portal classes does that seem reasonable?8 from the portal is fine if it's the right guys in position of need. Quality over quantity all day.
Getting 10+ high quality transfers is not happening. At some point we need to develop some of these HS recruits.Shocked he thought as few as 6 portal adds up until last week. Anyone watching our team could see 8 is the bare minimum. More likely 10+ And they need to be high quality.

Portal will be 12-15 minimum if scholarship limit is 85.
Doesnt mean those team got 10+ high quality transfers. To achieve that goal we will need to be back channeling and be extremely active the first portal window.Everybody getting 10+ portal kids. Some of them got 20+ transfers. The only schools in the top 10 that went under 10 plus was Tennessee and Ohio State. This is the new college football

Nope. Obviously I would love to have 10+ portal guts who are ballers but I'm trying to keep my expectations in check. Tea leaves from multiple sources at least indicate we'll be aggre$$ive but they gotta be the right type of player too and our portal hit rate hasn't been good enough.Don't need a huge sidebar here, after 3 portal classes does that seem reasonable?
I gotta see how we close at linebacker but for me:Quality over quantity yes. But we have 1 known starter, 2 probable starters, and zero known quality depth among DBs, so I would want to see 4 adds there alone. We need two DTs assuming Mesidor leaves. We need 2 LBs and probably 1 DE. So that is 9 right there plus a QB, or 10. And we know we’re losing guys to the portal, too, so we’ll need to replace a few more.
We have to “back channel” effectively like every other big time program does. We can’t just hope a good fit enters the portal. Not saying we don’t do anything but seems like we are behind on this compared to other programs.Nope. From what I gathered hearing we were ready to be aggressive in portal hopefully meant just what you said. We need the majority of guys finalized in the first window. We have to “back channel” effectively like every other big time program does. We can’t just hope a good fit enters the portal.
