Miami extends offer to skyscraper C Marcis Ponder

God bless you and your keyboard ways. There's a special place for your sort. I'm not the sort to hide behind a keyboard and threaten people. So spare me killa
No threat big dawg. You came at me with a tone I didn’t like. Just saying by chance if you were in Louisville I’d say to you in person what I’d say on here.

Then we could take a photo together and share to the board that were cool and the canes won lol.

@Brooklyndee You’re the guy running around the internet posting about how L misuses bigs and you wouldn’t let your nephew go to Miami.

You’re doing a good job amplifying the negative recruiting against us… which is itself based on total BS.

Send your nephew where you want, no need to dump on the program you claim to support.

The truth is L has consistently exceeded expectations and won at an unprecedented level by modifying the system to fit the players. There’s no good reason to doubt that he would continue to do what he’s always done if/when he finally gets a true dominant post player.
You and your sister @Donny Donowitz don't even realize he's literally saying exactly what I said that it's not the role for bigs here. Just is what it is. But apparently that's my feelings showing & you keep making up story lines and bringing me into this ****. Yet again I was asked a question. I don't give a **** on any of your thoughts when it relates to me or proving my support to some *** clowns like the two of you. Running around the Internet or whatever you call it,no one's problem but yours. If you don't like an answer than start filtering out the people asking those questions and the reasons why. Yet you sit here and lie about our support and our roles prior to coach L getting here. Like I've been said if my nephew was a guard I'd love for him to be here. As a big PERIOD He won't be developed to his potential. Feel free to prove me wrong. Otherwise good night and you both can eat the same bag of ****s and choke on them. No agenda in that. It's fact

I'd love to know where my tone was misconstrued? I literally said what you said that it's not the system designed for bigs. It is first and foremost and offense designed for gaurd play. Nothing else to that other than the simple fact a big who's truly talented and has evolved beyond simply a caveman's role in an offense won't wanna play here. Nothing at all extra to that. So I'm not sure where you feel my tone came off some kind of way. But when you then tell me I'm being a ***** and you'd say it to my face were then going a different route. Either way I'm over this. Cause what you're not realizing is that dude who you responded to simply tries to constantly bait me into an argument because I've been said I WILL NOT LET MY NEPHEW COME HERE because he won't become the player he wants to be. Don't get how people could argue that. I get it, fans are fans. But this is peoples life's and all I care about is what's in their best interest. Not that guy approving of the reasons I won't support him coming here.

Not reading this either lol.

Don’t care about your nephew either cuz if he’s as soft as his uncle we don’t want him! 🤣

You do what you think is best for your nephew.

But if you actually care about the program you wouldn’t be running your mouth on the internet with the exact same garbage that coaches are using to negative recruit bigs that L is trying to sign.

Yeah, L doesn’t want 3* big slow unathletic centers. Thats also why he was able to take a school with no history, support, no tradition (and no chance to sign elite post players) to 4 sweet 16’s, an elite 8, and final four.

But you’re nothing more than a hater if you think L wouldn’t take and build a winning team around the next Shaq.

It’s called being an elite coach… when/if L finally gets a true elite big man, he’s gonna play to that strength.

You expect him to try to build a team around a 3 or marginal 4* big… that’s Frank Haith level dumb.

Your first posts on this board were straight up **** talking L… go focus your energy on something positive, cause your junk in this thread ain’t it.

Nowhere near my first posts bud. So you're gonna keep saying we don't get those elite bigs ONLY BECAUSE WERE NOT ABLE TO? That right? So you honestly believe we're able to sign elite guards and elite wings, were even down to the wire in it for elite fours BUT we're not able to recruit those same bigs that the traditional schools recruit? That's what you're going with? Okay Kool. That's what it is. I'd love to know how many conversations you've had with L where he explains in an ideal world what his perfect offense is. You act like it's a negative that he prefers to play gaurd heavy ball. That's on you. By the way building a team around them and atleast featuring them from time to time is pretty different. You I guess just wanna go with any bigs we've ever signed just simply sucked I guess. Far as what he'd do with the next Shaq ONLY thing I can go off of is what he's done previously. Because otherwise you're gambling on a long shot. The question isn't is there belief in what he'd build AROUND him. It's how would he build him up.

Another note to add to this is that Marcis is from Miami and grew up a Miami Hurricanes fan, and Paulo just got here from Angola.
On a side note, Marcis' first Division I offer came from the Miami Hurricanes football program back in 2021 while he was in middle school playing football for the Miami Gardens Ravens as a 6'7" 285lbs TE. Dude was a beast on the football field. Was headed for stardom, but outgrew the sport. Just don't see 7 footers playing football.

Part 1: Uhhhh… duh. Yes. Correct.

Part 2: Obviously you’ve missed the whole point. We haven’t signed any bigs who were good enough/dominant enough that it advantaged the team to play through the post against ACC level competition. Why? Because there are only a couple of those guys each class and until last year Miami lacked resources, support, and history.

The development potential for guards is totally different than bigs. A developmental big is a long shot proposition. It can happen, but it probably won’t. Mid majors make it to final 4’s with guard play for a reason… they can’t sign bigs who can compete with the elite.

Miami was basically a mid-major program when L got here… and Lonnie and Bruce came here because L could sell his success with developing guards. L did an amazing job developing Jekiri and Izundu but careers overseas (even for guys who started as 3/marginal 4* recruits) aren’t selling points for recruiting elite bigs.

Frankly, I don’t care what you think or what you advise your family to do… but don’t come on a Canes board and say you bleed orange and green while literally negative recruiting the program.

Follow the offers before you say what we don't recruit and you saying we have lacked the resources shows you don't follow along either. Good night. Not only do we not sign them. We also don't attempt to recruit them.

I think there's merit and substance to what all three of you are saying. I'm a South Florida guy. Always have been, always will be. There are many on a national level who say some of the same things @Brooklyndee is saying, as far as bigs not flourishing under Coach L. And there are many in Florida who say the same thing as well. Is what it is. I think Dewan Huell/Hernandez coming to Miami and not blossoming into a 1st round pick didn't help matters. All that being said, I don't know how fair it is to judge a coach off of one try. Dewan has been the only blue chip big to sign with Miami under Coach L and if you listen to many of the locals, it's Dewan who ****ed everything up. That's just my humble opinion. @AmherstCane @Donny Donowitz

It’s really irrelevant in the short term. L won’t be around in a couple of years.

Plenty of time to hit the reset button then

Emotional thread.

Coach L is as solid as they get... Given how poorly the University approaches hiring, some of you haters should be cautious... then again, I am sure there is an alumni you'd prefer...

Coach L hasn't had any real success turning bigs into NBA prospects. That is true. I likely would advise any young man that I cared about, who was a big considering Miami, to look closely at other options as well. But as a fan I probably wouldn't come here and announce it. That would be a conversation for me and them.

No hating here. Just reality of the situation.

L has been the best thing the program has had. But he won’t go on indefinitely.

As to a future coach, cross that bridge at that time

Unfortunately Dewan got hurt and the NCAA used him as a sacrificial lamb. At this point, we pull our bigs via the portal. I think we will be happy with Kidd and Huie and both will be very productive for us.

So is that.

Hopefully NIL and recent success will give L the opportunity to demonstrate that he can and will play through the post when he has someone good enough to do so. It’s all about opportunity cost…

I know for a fact L *wants* size… he just hasn’t generally been able to sign big guys who have enough skill and athleticism to make the team better than running a small ball 5 out offense. because, again, those guys are generally going to Blue Bloods or other established programs.

I think Marcis would be a great fit at Miami. He needs work — skill wise. However, from day 1 he’s going to bring effort, energy and toughness. Doesn’t have the pre-Madonna, diva mentality one finds in a lot of the top prospects. I’ve seen him play a hand full of times and every time it seems he’s gotten better and always plays with a motor. Glad we offered. Now we got to stay on him and close the deal. Make him a priority if we haven’t already. GO CANES!!!
