Miami #8 in increased attendance

Florida was still #10 in the country despite their terrible season

Have you been to the swamp or any other big school. They have built in attendance. These schools have anywhere from 40-60K attending... Miami is what a little over 10K

I know, just pointing it out. I remember some on here saying that Florida couldn't get people in their seats when they were losing. I also know some Florida students and a lot of them were actually trying to sell their FSU tickets so I was curious whether their attendance actually wasn't so great this year. Turns out it still stayed top 10.

Also, their enrollment is about 33,000 per US News (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/university-of-florida-1535).

That was undergrad only. From your article: The University of Florida is about two miles away from downtown Gainesville, a college town bolstered by the school’s nearly 50,000 students.

Well, it's not bad news is it?

The funny part is those slurping the hater-aid will come up with excuse after excuse as to why it's a bad thing.

What's interesting when looking at attendance the past 3 years, is more have shown up to games on avg that the prior 4 year avg.
How can you tell that? Attendance figures don't tell you how many have shown up to games. If you saw the pic taken during the WF game, it's clear to see there is a huge disconnect between attendance figures and people who showed up for the game.

Unless you are going to watch the games on replay and count the heads, attendance stats is pretty much what you have to rely on.

You don't have to count heads. A quick look at the photo tells the story. The attendance numbers are a farce, and have been since about 2005 when the NCAA started allowing creative numbers. They loosened the reporting requirement so that teams who were in jeopardy of losing their D-1 status because of poor attendance could avoid the axe. The NCAA requires a two year rolling average of 15,000 to maintain D-1 status. Rather than enforce that requirement, the NCAA allows them to report attendance almost any way they want to. Interestingly to me is that the NCAA doesn't enforce the two year 15K average anyway. They just warn the programs. There are still MAC teams that don't meet the minimum, even with creative reporting.

That change allows any program to inflate (sometimes grossly) attendance figures for any number of reasons. Mostly, I guess they want to create the perception that their product is a "hot ticket" even when it's not.

Such bs numbers. More people bought season tickets because of the Florida game. Attendance the rest of the year was a joke and an embarrassment.

A photo can be misleading as well. In Miami, fans are late to EVERYTHING. If you were to take a photo of the UF game right before kickoff, you would see plenty of empty seats. We all know it filled out later on.

For the last game of the season, they upgraded our seats to club level, I ended up watching 95% of the game from the comfy couches and AC in the club level.

Everything else on inflated numbers you stated I can agree with. But it's all we can go by at this point. If we had numbers on "scanned" tickets, that would probably be the best indicator.

Good for them, they also have a student section which seats 10,000 more than our total enrollment, undergrad + grad. They have 50,000 students and 400,000 alumi, most still in Florida after they graduate. Also, most people in Florida with no "connection" to any school grow up Florida fans, or least they historically have. Need me to continue?

With Attendence bottom line is that this is MIAMI and you can do so many more things then just watch a football game on a saturday. what is there too do in Tallahassee or Gainesville? Football is the main Attraction every saturday for those too country towns. Even look at the Miami Heat games. you have Lebron James and Dewayne Wade and they still cant have a sold out crowd until the playoffs. the formula is simple. just win and we will have bandwagon fans filling the stadium in no time.

Hey don't be stealing my info man...

According to NCAA statistics, Miami was 8th in largest average attendance increase from previous year in 2013.

Stop laughing.

I think they base these numbers off of tickets sold, not butts in seats.
.....and since a lot of UF fans bought Canes season tix last year just so they could go to the UF-UM game, it boosted our overall "attendance" for the season.

Expect attendance to drop next season. Have your seen our home schedule? :-(

It's "distributed", not necessarily sold. And, it goes beyond that. They can get very creative with the numbers.
