MIAMI (-4.5) @FSU Tues 7PM ESPNU

This is a really delusional take. Blowout wins on the road, in conference play, are extremely rare. We won by 23 points so not sure why you’re complaining.

You, of all people, calling another poster delusional?

It was a good win, but 12 turn overs in the second half combined with losing the second half is something the team needs to work on to realize their full potential in March. And emphatically finishing games has been a struggle all year long. That needs to change or there is a good chance for a quick exit in March.

That said this is a super fun year and I am thoroughly enjoying the ride and we are so so so so so so so lucky to have Coach L who I trust will do everything possible to make this team the best version they can possibly be.

Anyone thinking this will be a cakewalk W is setting themselves up for disappointment. FSU is playing much better now than they were earlier in the season. They got a couple guys back from injuries and suspensions. This isn't a vintage FSU team, but this isn't non-competitive Louisville, either. FSU has had our number for YEARS, and we've lost 3 straight road games. I expect another close, down to the wire type of game.

Did not age well.

I’m sure @Gables Canes is glad to have been wrong… but it was a very reasonable take.

FSU’s last 5 included 11pt win vs GT, 13 pt win at ND, 7pt win at Pitt, and a 9 pt loss to UVA.

FSU has a top 25 quality roster - they just haven’t figured out how to play together and with consistent effort and intensity.

They will be a problem soon.... they missed a ton of easy layups and put backs last night.

I said the same thing in another thread....and the way we shot last night there are probably only a few teams in the country that could have made that a game. I had mentioned using McCloud too for defensive purposes which he made Omier work a bit but he was a bit of a surprise on O for them.

But I hope they keep losing close ones and the wheels fall off in the next 3-4 games despite the roster starting to stabilize.

What was shocking to me from that fsu team last night was how poor they were on ball defensively. These elite fsu teams over last decade have had guys that can stick backcourt players full court… and than the 2nd 5 had guys that could do the same thing for 40 minutes.

Whether it’s youth or missed evals seems pretty clear that full court on ball pressure we’ve seen from the noles over the years makes them go. Defensively they were putrid yesterday. Effort wise too

Yes you're delusional and have clearly never played the game before, or likely any competitive sport for that matter

I understand, I'm not really trying to bust @Gables Canes chops, I was just running behind on reading the thread and thought I'd make a joke.

Look, I am not one to really make predictions on a rivalry game, particularly when we haven't won in 5 years. I just felt that this F$U team is fool's gold right now, and while I didn't expect to win by 23, I didn't think it would be down to the wire either.

F$U had a horrible start, and the ACC wins have not been THAT IMPRESSIVE to date. You heard the announcers talking about that big dude missing 16 games. So when you couple that with the injuries...I realize that NOW they have the bodies, but they also need a bit of time to work together and gel.

On the other hand, Miami has had a nearly-identical starting five for almost the entire season (Pack missed one game?). And we are seeing those five work very well together, as Pack finds his 3 and you had all five starters scoring in double digits last night.

That's all. I knew the bad history (particularly those 2 games last year) but I feel like there's a nice gap between where we are right now and where F$U is right now. Maybe F$U will get better in February.

Why are you such an ******* to people? Whenever someone posts something you don't agree with you belittle the **** out of them.

I'm more than happy to be wrong.

But while this isn't a good FSU team, you can see their talent and athleticism. This isn't Louisville or BC that we just blew out.

Funny thing is I’m generally a big homer… and a big part of my schtick is to bash kenpom.

And while I absolutely believe kenpom is an awful ranking algorithm (ignoring and dismissing/diminishing actual wins and losses)… it does provide very valuable insight/information about aspects of team performance.

We are ranked poorly in kenpom because we play in mostly close games (ie we tend not to dominate full games). Typically our defensive intensity sags and the games tighten and then we rely on offensive production to close out the win.

While it’s hard to maintain intensity when you’re blowing out an opponent - it’s also hard to go deep in March. And - despite all my bytching about kenpom - there is a correlation, especially as the season progresses.

So while FSU really was a great win… the biggest flaw was a season long issue.

I don’t think that means I’m delusional or never played basketball or other sports (I did both lol).

Kenpom loved our blowout. It rewarded us by moving up 8 or 9 spots.

I swear if you say Kenpom one more time....

2 straight out of bounds plays for UM that end in layups! UM running repeated back door cuts. We know FSU can never shoot but 0 offensive rebounds in the 1st half.
I have not seen a Leonard Hamilton team that poorly coached or prepared since????Ever.

Forget how well UM shot as that is a bit of an outlier. FSU was wholly unprepared for anything UM was doing And would have lost this game by 10-15 if we had a normal shooting night. And about the shooting, a lot of those 3’s were uncontested. Another mistake by FSU.
Ham needs to retire.

I hate to even write this but I will anyway. The color commentator (don’t know who he was) was basically providing commentary for an FSU game and UM happened to be the opponent. He had to repeatedly stop talking about FSU to comment on a shot made by UM. He referred to the FSU center as “my guy McCloud (however it is spelled). both commentators were very excited for the FSU big guy and the guy who returned for an injury. In a 23 point game!

Watch the last play of the game. His commentary is that the FSU player Robinson is “still competing, and UM blocks the shot”. Sorry but it’s a bigger deal to block a shot up by 23 with 5 seconds to go that it is to take a shot down by 23. blocking the shot is the definition of competing. Taking the shot is the definition of trying to pad some points. Like the Syracuse player being blocked by Omier on the layup.

It seems like we only get commentator support when we are the overwhelming underdog. The commentators haven't been in our corner for a minute.

100%. Any team with a decent pg should destroy them if that is how they defend.

Great win and sets us up to have a chance to get out of a tough 3 road game in 8 day stretch at 2-1.
