Matt Porter: "5 biggest camp battles besides QB"

I will say the depth is getting way better on defense. Losing fig hurt us but other then that things look better.

We have more depth on defense than any team in football! NOBODY plays deeper off the ball on 3rd and 5 than us!

Despite Figs, still think this defense has more talent than any Canes defense since 2009, with much better work ethic. Vag Tech and Duke will not put up 40+ points on us. Only UL, Neb and FSU have the offensive weapons to score big on us. Not predicting records here, just saying we have enough talent that our defense will not lose games we should have won like last year.

The fact that a bad, horribly coached Nebraska team is being used as an exscuse for one of our losses says everything.

Nebraska ranked in many pre-season top 25's
- All Big Ten RB coming back
- Coach has averaged 9.5 wins a year while at Nebraska
- They are at home

LB will be a dumpster fire if injuries hit there.

Oh really? We only played 5 LB's last season. Armbister, Gaines, Perryman, Figs and Cornelius

This year. Perryman, Kirby, Grace, Armbister, Owens. Most think the second group is more talented.

There are 4 LB spots. There is no backup with even scout team experience at SILB. The only viable backup at WILB is an awful fit for the front. There is no true Sam even in in the starting lineup. Owens is only 220 so he doesnt have the size to be a Sam yet. And any front where Armbrister is discussed as a serious option in Year 4 is a joke.

I know that there are 4 lb's in a 3-4. We upgraded the talent with Quan, and Mccord over Green. We upgraded the talent with Kirby over Gaines, and we upgraded the talent with Grace over Cornelius. Again, we had the same problem last season. Depth was not a problem last season, talent was.

Depth was not a problem last year because a rash of injuries did not hit the LB position. That is the issue.

That's what I'm saying, if injuries hit the starters, while the backups are talented, almost all of them are TRUE freshmen.

If you think that bagman, Chalie Strong, AKA "Larry Coker's Byatch" smoked us, wait till you see what Petrino does to us.

This looks like a 60 or 70 to nothing type Labor Day epic.

Battles? LOL! Battles for who will start on a third in the Coastal team? When you are a distant third in the worst division in football, the only "Battle" should be "Who can we hire for coach?"
