Here's a bit of an interview he did after Enos was there last week:
“The last 72 hours have been pretty intense,” Matocha said. “Honestly, I’m a competitor. As soon as I get to campus, obviously, I’m going to fight for the job. But I’m choosing a college most importantly because I want to get the best degree I can possible. Miami is a very prestigious university. That’s the most important thing to me. Obviously, football, coach Enos has a great track record of developing QBs. I’m about 6-3 ½, 190 pounds. Once I get to the 6-4, 220 range, I’m going to need the right guy to help me reach how far I can go, and I know Coach Enos is that guy.
“I know I have to develop a little bit. But as soon as I get there I’m going to fight for the job. And I’m either going to have it or I’m going to make the guy who does have it a lot better. That’s kind of the mindset I have.”
At St. Thomas, where he was a four-year starter, Matocha said he played in a variety of offenses.
“I had four different offensive coordinators my four years of high school,” he said. “I went from a heavy pro-style running offense my freshman year to a full-scale Air Raid offense that barely ran the ball. Then, we moved to more of a West Coast theme. I’ve pretty much had to learn it all. I’ve done everything.
“The one thing I’d say I love about Enos’ offense is how diverse it is. When he was at Alabama and had all those receivers around him, he did do a lot of RPOs (run-pass-options) and had a balanced run game. His system just kind of adjusts to whatever quarterback he has and what his strengths are. That’s what’s obviously most important.”
This is why Enos likes him. The kid can do ALOT.
Terrific interview. This kid has a great attitude. Knows he needs to put on weight and needs to be developed and coached. Sounds like the kids will work hard. He has high jumped 6'9" so he is certainly an explosive athletic. Will make the quarterback room better.
