After Jaden went out, the defense improved. I'm not placing that solely on Markeith.

I’m not a secondary guru like some here but if Guidry feels we need Meesh at nickel, do we have 15,7, and 0 on the field at the same time?

Not ideal but necessary perhaps?

Great question. We certianly have not had great nickel play and this might be worth the experiment.

I think that is where the rub lies. I think Markeith is the best ball hawking safety we have right now. But he is still light and even though he throws his body around my concern is him in run support and trusting him to not blow assignments.

I saw someone say the Defense played better once he was out, did he go out in the second quarter?

Because 1st quarter after the TO they had a run for 4 yards, pass for 2, then some blown assignment to the TE for the 25 yard TD. That could have been his assignment. The WR ran a post across his face and he went with him and the TE streaked to the spot he vacated.

Next possession, one pass and tip for INT.

Next possession 29 yards (including a 15 yard PI call on Richards) and a punt. Solid series

Next possession, 2 runs for 5 yards then 55 yard TD run. Kiko missed the tackle.

Next possession 70 yards but three runs of 15+ yards one pass for 18 yards not his assignment.

Next possession 34 yards, only one completed pass for 8 yards, rest runs then 57 yard FG and half.

All I know is the Defense played like **** and with playing like **** Drones threw for only 189 yards on 19 completions (5.7 yard average) and a 57% completion % but we gave up over 200 on the ground. If anything it looks like the DL was too aggressive and LB had a poor showing. Any time you can hold the opposing team under 200 yards passing that is pretty **** good in CFB. Tackling all around was **** poor.

Not out out on Harris but he’s still new to the position and it frequently shows. Love the energy, you definitely feel him, but good or bad 7 is on my screen too much. He shouldn’t be starting on a top 10 team at this stage in his development. We need back 7 help bad bad.

Alston missed at least 2 sacks that turned into big plays, if he was able to contain/make sack that would have prevented 2 big plays...once QB is out of pocket it makes our secondary look worse...

For this upcoming game, obviously assuming he's healthy, I would prefer Harris to play.

The best player on the Cal team is their running back. I'd much prefer to play the run and try to key on him and make Mendoza beat you. IMO Harris gives you a better opportunity to do that.
