Mario's response to Cam Ward hate

Maybe it's just me, but how does this change how anyone looks at the situation? He looked like he would go early in the draft in the week of the game? Um, really? That hasn't been a foregone conclusion since the end of November? And "That's when decisions were made that were best for everybody".

Weak, just weak - from all parties involved in the "decisions" that were made for the best of everybody.
It's too late to change how anyone looks at it. Damage was already done. In the eyes of the people looking for a reason to hate Miami, looking for a reason to say something negative, this is about as low hanging fruit as it could get. You'll have people 10 years from now hating Cam, because "he's not a team player and he's selfish". Honestly real damage for his brand.

Eh, I doubt people are going to hold it against Cam in April for the draft, let alone 10 years from now. He will be drafted in the first 2 picks and the fans of whichever that team is will be excited to see him on their team. His "brand" will be fine.

As coach, Mario should have told Cam and his reps that he could either play the whole game as normal or sit out the game. Then, none of this **** would even be discussed at all. But no, figure Mario would choose the option that would cause the most controversy.

How tone deaf do both Mario and Cam have to be that playing only 1H in Bowl, especially with a loss as a result, wouldn't generate clickbait criticism of the decision?

Self-inflicted wound that will have zero impact on Mario's tenure at Miami nor Cam's NFL contract.

The Pop Tart Bowl was nothing more than a scrimmage game.

There's been plenty from our fanbase too...
There was a metric ton of hate directed at that young man. I’m glad Mario finally said something. Now could he have done this earlier? Sure… but then you play this game of back and forth with the sensationalized media. He waited until the crap storm died down. I felt this should have happened sooner, but right after the pop tartisaster, his mind was probably on….. “Now how the fucc do I get another QB…. and how much is it gonna cost? We can’t kickoff the 2025 with that muhfucca right there, as QB1! **** naw!”

Or they could have just said up front that Cam is going to start the game and they hope to get a look at the other QBs too. That's all.
Then no one would have been surprised when Cam didn't play after the half.

The national media nonsense is just that, nonsense. Who really cares about the narrative around Ward and the bowl game? Not the people who are deciding whether to pay Ward $20-30 million in April. The ONLY conversations that matter about Ward are the conversations Mario and Dawson will have with NFL GM’s.

The media has a job-create story lines so people will pay attention. Stop. Just stop paying attention. When you pay attention you are being manipulated by media members. Remember that. They are using you and you are allowing yourself to be used.
There was no huge slew of negative media takes. When you say "media" what exactly do you mean -- someone on a talk show, a sports column? Also: The local media is very passive. Don't blame the media for everything.

I honestly haven't heard any hate for Cam.
I live out in Texas and wore my UM cap out a few days the week after the bowl. Twice I was approached by strangers wanting to know “what did you think of that Miami quarterback sitting out”.
Surprised me how easily the media can still put out a narrative that people would adhere.

Mario is the head coach and can put out a statement to the media whenever he likes. The reason there was an unnecessary **** storm in the news cycle after the game is due to mario refusal to make such a statement.

I don't have an issue with what they did, but how they treated it after was terrible. Cams rep took a hit and mario sat by and let it happen.
His rep took such a hit that he’s gonna be a top 3 overall draft pick.

I have one and only one issue with Cam sitting in the 2nd half. As a fan we were told he was going to play in the game and that to me means as long as he is healthy he will be the QB just like every other game this year. And as a fan if I dropped a couple thousand to travel to the game (tickets, hotel, gas or airfare) and witnessed that 2nd half I would be ****ed as F***. I was on the fence and didn't travel to this game and am **** glad I didn't. Only thing him not playing in the 2nd half that changed was an 11 win season became a 10 win season.

Shouldn't have waited this long to address this issue...he left Cam out to dry
I get this take but I don't think Mario did anything wrong. I personally think he's covering a bit for Cam here. Gut intuition (could be wrong). He seemed a bit peeved after the game. In his first press conference since, he backed his guy. I'm sure Beck makes it easier to take the high road. Lol

Winning that game mattered more to Mario then some of the players. I'm sure that was dejecting.

Imo that word salad still left the water muddy. Just say "Cam will be a top draft pick and it was 100 percent my decision for him only to play a half. He didn't quit, he stayed involved in the game and did what he could from the sideline. He did everything we asked if him, including putting up 31 points in a half."
Personally, it didn't even enter my mind to be mad at him not playing the second half. As fans, we got everything we wanted except a win. Cam playing, breaking records doing his thing, and we got to see the young guys play.
