Dunn coached me in college. As legit as they come. Cut from the same cloth as Cristobal and Mirabal.
hence why he won a florida championship his first year back at CCHS with Parrish at RB.Dunn coached me in college. As legit as they come. Cut from the same cloth as Cristobal and Mirabal.
Don’t take my word for it. Ask anyone who coached down here or was involved with the local high school programs. Golden was a hated man. It’s not just that he wasn’t recruiting kids, it’s that he actually managed to turn programs against Miami. Those bridges are still burnt. Bringing in Mario was a big step to rebuilding those relationships. What’s ur point? Like seriously; if anything this shows Golden burned bridges & Diaz didn’t take advantage of the bridges mended by his predecessor.
idk bout a dust up but I thought I read that t rob and Mario got into it at a PB hs and golden then blamed Mario for doing what he did or something to that effect. either way, even if that didnt happen, I wouldn't stick around for golden if bama came calling for the same position. That 2013 offseason… can anyone clarify, Mario was briefly on staff here under Golden (or agreed to be) but as we know ended up at Bama. What was said is that he bounced because he and Golden got into because of a dust up Mario had with another coach at a local high school…? Is that bullsh*t and completely made up or true? If true does anyone know who the assistant was or which recruit was at the center of it?
Somewhat off topic but interesting Columbus-UM connection; Jeffrey Andreu Swasey is the strength and conditioning coach at Columbus.
TruthAfter watching Butch & Company absolutely Feast at all the Dade Schools for 6yrs....It's absolutely unconscionable that a mere 10-11yrs later, things could have started to have gotten to the point they did.
Again, no knock on the previous guy, but Manny Diaz visited the school one time"Columbus head coach Dave Dunn is going into his second run as the head hancho at Columbus, originally manning the position from 1999 to 2002. From his first time at Columbus to his college coaching experience, he has built a strong relationship with Cristobal and Mirabal.
"Whenever someone says they are on the phone with Dave Dunn while Mario is around, he picks up the phone and says "are we getting the Columbus kids or what and just hangs up," says Dunn. Not only is there a friendship with Cristobal, but he also has close ties to Mirabal stemming from coaching together at Columbus and Marshall University. Dunn says he talks to Mirabal about as much as he does his wife.
Besides the close relationship with the two, Dunn swears by their work ethic. "It's not a knock on the previous staff, but they just work on it harder," in regard to Miami further building the Columbus connection. "Again, no knock on the previous guy, but Manny Diaz visited the school one time. The first school Mario visited in the spring was us and it was a 5:30 AM workout."

there's something no amount of help can fix man. thats experience. Manny should've. been allowed to go to temple and learn there not here. golden tried to make us Penn state and then went AWOL on the job. **** him
It’s water under the bridge, but if Manny really cared about his job he would make his rounds at the local powerhouse schools at minimum once a week.
If he only visited Columbus once in 6 years, I can’t imagine what it was like at Central, NW, BT, STA, Dillard…
We obviously know that Manny didn’t have the recruiting budget for out of state guys, but how the **** do you not hammer the local schools.
Pure ineptitude
but golden was exactly that too and he did that while being an experienced HC lol. they were both trash cansStubbornness & thinking u’re the smartest in the room is definitely an undoing. He rejected help b/c he wasn’t the problem. That’s the problem.

he visited once because Merritt and Dunn knew he was a f@cking fraud and probably treated him that wayAgain, no knock on the previous guy, but Manny Diaz visited the school one time
Appalling but not surprised
I still maintain the belief that Manny had major social anxiety and it led to his inability to be a HC.
