Mario & Rad @ Miami Herbert Business School

Well, no ****. But I can tell you that he is pretty typical of every division 1 color analyst around the country.

I agree to a certain point; being in the land of SC, I can tell u their play by play crew on radio r surely homers, but they also r not quirky & give a raw assessment during & after the game. Not sure who their color guys r guy b/c most of their games r televised on ABC.

I can't disagree and that's a **** shame. I guess the great majority of a school's fans would rather hear only platitudes and "positive" comments rather than opinion based on what the analyst actually sees and believes.

You ever listen to color analysts from other universities? They are paid to be homers for their universities. DBJ loves his alma mater. He is a little goofy, but then so is most of our fanbase. I say that with love, too.

You can be a “homer” and not insult one’s intelligence. Even horse voice Zagacki isn’t as bad as he is in spinning bull****. I am not even asking to give an honest assessment on the game or program but what he does is absurd. Miss me with that narrative.

Simple fact is we can do much better than either of those guys.

Go listen to an SEC game or up here in Virginia with UVA or VPI.

I think the dislike for DBJ is he came off as an apologist over the last 15 years. That is part of the job description--sunshine pusher. Go listen to other university broadcasts. Same model is pervasive throughout university broadcasts.
Don’t care about any other anything. He’s not good at his job. Yes he’s an apologist and a homer. He’s also a weak announcer and doesn’t paint a picture with his words. He’s bad at broadcasting. We can do much better as a university.

I frankly don’t like any homer announcer, whether for the team I am cheering for or against. I want honest assessments of what is occurring on the field or court. One thing that drives me nuts is when announcers are unwilling to say a player made a bad play. Sometimes the receiver is open not because he is amazing but because the DB blew the coverage. Sometimes it is bad defense and not good offense in basketball that results in a basket. But announcers love to only focus on the positive even when that makes them dishonest or at least disingenuous.

I assume it is just an aspect of human nature that it is easier to praise than criticize. But honesty should mean describing what is happening and not worrying about the feelings of the player. Stephen A Smith drives my absolutely crazy with this. Every time he wants to criticize he has to preface his criticism with 2 1/2 minutes of, “You know I love him, you know he’s my guy, you know I believe he has completely and absolutely changed the game of basketball for the better and off the court has started 15 charities, has a great wife and great kids who are all A students, ….. but I think that was a bad shot”

God **** just say it was a bad shot and stop worrying about being loved by everyone.

You're on CIS. We hate every Miami announcer, every Miami writer, every Miami recruiting analyst. Also, our fellow fans, and most of the players eventually. Oh, and the billionaire who is giving us a shot at relevance.

He really needs to go. I can’t for the life of me understand why he’s employed. There are plenty of Hurricane homers who’d do the job better. He’s embarrassing
I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but the powers that be need to stop making him the voice of the U. You’re right, and we need a savvy young gun at this.

The business school is just another Herbert for Mario to ruin

(preemptive - This is sarcasm, you ding dongs)

You’re reaching here. This isn’t just a CIS thing (which I get the joke); more so, this is a any fan with an average IQ thing. DBJ is embarrassing bad.

I can’t tolerate DBJ for more than 2 minutes.
Why? The guy bleeds orange and green. It's literally his job to be a homer. He is paid by the university to be a positive representative of the school. Just because he isn't openly critical of the coaches and administration doesn't mean he isn't as frustrated as the rest of us. Do you honestly think he hasn't been biting his tongue for a long time? The guy is nothing but class and I as an alum appreciate the way in which he represents my alma mater and I enjoy listening to him when he's either on air or speaking publicly on behalf of the University. But you go on hating on people who have dedicated their lives to the tams we love to root for.

Man, we all need to chill the fvck out on Don Bailey Jr.

I met Don Sr. and Don Jr. many times back in the day, they love UM. And there's not a single former PLAYER OR COACH who is coming out with "we need to get rid of Don Bailey Jr."

The guy is genuine. He loves this U. He ain't goin' nowhere.

exactly. I'd like to hear why people think he's embarrassing. DBJ and his family have been nothing but class and great members of the South Florida community for decades.

Right.

And I can live with some legitimate critiques of his on-air style. I just don't think that rises to the level of "he's a blight on UM" or "he must be replaced immediately or the Hecht expansion will never happen".

Look, not every "color" guy is Tony Romo. Many people never see the "color commentary sausage" being made, they forget that a lot of the "on-air" guys have a "face-made-for-radio stats nerd" like The Bear in their ears all game long.

Don Bailey Jr. isn't perfect. Turn on WVUM if you want to hear some up-and-comers. But Don Bailey Jr. will outlive and outlast us all.

He doesn’t get paid to be a homer and *** kisser. Stop. My family has had season tickets since he played and before I was born so spare me the loyalty crap. I don't respect people who kiss *** to be liked in business nor personally but do you, Karen. He ******* sucks.
