Mario on Joe Rose (Wake week)

So our talent is not up to par w Cal, Va Tech, & GT?

I have an earnest ? for this board, & it’s a ? I’ve asked for yrs which no one has been able to answer:

How do other coaches, like Mike Elko as an example, walk into a situation much dire than ours, & elevate their programs immediately, yet we need 15 yrs to accumulate talent to not struggle against the pedestrian ACC teams?
We were told we were unrealistic in 2022 while getting absolutely boat raced by the 18th best team in the state of Tennessee like it was our first year back off of the death penalty or some ****

Perfectly & well said.

When Cam Ward is no longer the starting QB at Miami, and the plays that actually get run reverts more to Dawson and his playcalling, I’m really curious how much regression we will see.

I’m glad that we are having success in 2024, but I’m still gonna bang the drum that Guidry and Dawson are not top 20 caliber coordinators, and that Mario could do way better.

How do u say roster to roster? Elko inherited a team that went 12-13 w/ the current players on the roster. U’re basing this off the recruitment of Jumbo, which u should, which proves that it wasn’t a talent issue vs. coaching issue. That’s my point.

It’s like when I was arguing w/ GSW about Steph, & they were ****ed J West kept him over Monte Ellis. I told them Steph is not the problem, the problem is how he’s being used. Kerr comes in, & all of a sudden Steph becomes a Demi-God shooter & play maker. Being around sports all of my life, having the absolute honor to pick the brains of some of the all time greats in both basketball, & football, I can unequivocally tell u most of the time when u have guys not reaching their potential, it’s coaching.

For every Ben Simmons, there’s a Jimmy Butler who got around the right coach that pushed him to be a borderline HOFer. Look at Chad Thomas under Golden vs. Richt for instance, & there’s millions of examples of this.

Dawson is benefiting from Cam. His best game is still the A&M game.

I still don’t see a coherent game plan that attacks the defense’s weakness like other offenses do to ours (eg seeing the rb motion out wide we know they are going after Kiko smh).

And Cam does a lot of audibles… I wonder what percentage of plays Dawson calls actually get run?

He's not capable of that, dude is a bad coach. Couple that glaring talent issues (#0, 1, 2, 7, 19, 25) and you have a receipt for disaster.

Desperation is a powerful motivator. I think you're underestimating the pressure he must feel. Mario's going to replace him if he loses us a shot at the ACCCG and playoffs. Guy seems smart and experienced enough to me. But you may be right in the end.

I don’t know any ball, unfortunately.

And I wouldn’t be able to give you an answer on which DB’s they feels comfortable playing.

I know id start the following guys at this point:

Free - Wiliams
Strong - Patterson
Nickle - Harris
Field - OJF
Boundary - Porter
Harris at nickel doesn’t sound terrible long term but its an indictment on the staff that we are making full on position shifts and changes in week10

For Miami to invest the level of resources it has, to be that poor vs GaTech is completely inexcusable, and you’re 100% correct, other coaches have been fired for less.

I don’t know how it took a week 10 loss to an undermanned GaTech team for Mario to see that the defense was regressing, and missing on fundamentals

Can Ward better throw for 10 TDs these next 2 games or we are gonna be sweating out games versus garbage teams again
How many undefeated teams are there? Last count is 2 and highly unlikely Indiana wins at Ohio Taint

It’s not one or the other.

For me it is a combination of both.

After the Damari Brown injury, they should’ve moved Richard to Nickel. After he gets injured, bring Harris down and bring in Keith Williams. He can patrol the deep middle and keeps him out of the traffic and making tackles.

Move Porter outside to boundary corner to limit his lack of athleticism. He was pretty good there last year.

Bench Powell and play Patterson more. Limit his reads and have him playing closer to the LOS.

Bring Baron off the bench and give the majority of the snaps to Mesidor. He’s a much better defender than Baron.

Give Scott, Moten, and Campbell more snaps paired with Barrow. That allows him to be more disruptive if you insist on playing a 4 man front.

Get Mauigoa off the field in obvious passing downs. Pruitt looks ready to me.

Play more zone, like Cover 3 match. Cover 2 is *** here since the deep safeties don’t have eye discipline.

Mix in the 3-3-5 more. It worked last year when we needed it. Guess what, we need it.

+ Saw quite a bit of Porter on the outside today. I wonder if someone can pull the snaps by position for him later in the week.
+ Baron gets his *** benched and the defense somewhat comes back to life. He’s still a valuable athlete/pass rusher.
+ Scott and Moten played very well.
+ Still too many snaps for Mauigoa.

Finally, I saw the 3-3-5 a bit, but they got burned in it a few times and I didn’t notice it in the second half.
