If that was true you’d see a game that would have normal officiating. You gotta think the ACC brass is not happy at all with Mario for that GTech loss either. Because if we had gone undefeated in the regular season and lost in the ACC title game..we still would have got a spot in the CFP at 11-1..And the ACC would have 2 teams in the CFP..but now the ACC is almost certainly only getting 1 team..(unless something absolutely crazy happens). While the SEC and Big 10 are making cases to have 4 teams each. Doesnt make the conference look good at all.
I think if he is ready throw him out there. Bell is decent but is green. Rivers is a man and is a very good college left tackle. If Rodriquez is a full go, will he start immediately or will they ease him into it? Bell (LT) and Rivers (LG) have been a great combo on that side. Bell really benefited from Rodriquez being out, but it's great having him back
Im with you in theory, wish cover 3 matchup was our base defense but no way they could teach/learn pattern matching in one by week. Its already a hard defense to get implemented in general, in two weeks.... With this team/coaches.... No freekin way. We would be letting guys run free all over the place.I actually do.
This is high division one football.
If they can’t get that concept; they can kick rocks. Half the SEC, Oregon, and Utah use this concept quite well.
Which personnel changes would you like to see? We all screamed for Patterson, the guy looked like he was seeing the sport played for the first time last week. He was atrocious. I'm not trying to be a ****, I just genuinely don't know what we can do to get better. It's a failure by Mario for being this devoid of talent in Year 3 and it's an indictment on Guidry that he can't get these kids to play at least somewhat better than they are currently playing. Yes, the talent is not up to par, but it's not like there are 40 kids who belong at Kent State on that side of the ball either. Figure the **** out.
Not sure about that….He does not
So our talent is not up to par w Cal, Va Tech, & GT?
I have an earnest ? for this board, & it’s a ? I’ve asked for yrs which no one has been able to answer:
How do other coaches, like Mike Elko as an example, walk into a situation much dire than ours, & elevate their programs immediately, yet we need 15 yrs to accumulate talent to not struggle against the pedestrian ACC teams?
We also keep forgetting to mention that their star RB was knocked out of the game early in the first half.
Saw these stats on ESPN.
What's going wrong? The defense stopped defending. For the season, Miami's defense has taken a slight step forward. After ranking 48th and 40th in defensive SP+ over Mario Cristobal's first two seasons, the Hurricanes are currently up to 35th. But that's down from 21st four weeks into the season. Since Week 5, they rank a solid 34th in success rate allowed (38.8%), but they are 127th in yards allowed per successful play (14.4). In this span, they've allowed at least 20 yards on 9.2% of snaps, 126th overall and fourth worst among power-conference defenses.

Miami's defense faced 64 snaps in its 28-23 loss to Georgia Tech in Week 11, and among them were gains of 65, 30, 27 and 21 yards, plus gains of 16, 15, 12 and 11 on third-and-long. Cam Ward and the offense faltered at times too, but because of the defense, the offense is never allowed to falter. With no mulligan left, the Canes probably need to win out to reach the CFP. They'll be favored in every game (Wake Forest; at Syracuse; and in the ACC championship game, likely against SMU), but they were favored pretty handsomely against Georgia Tech and three other teams they barely beat in ACC play too. They have to hope getting this past weekend off refreshed the legs a bit.
It’s a fair question and also to be fair, I did say Guidry clearly isn’t getting the most out of the talent we do have.
I agree with you, we shouldn’t need 11 NFL picks on defense to be competent. We have a bottom third defense nationally. I don’t think we have much talent that is experienced and plays in the back 7, but we sure as **** have better than bottom third talent.
And there in lies the crux. Let's pretend the GT debacle never happened and we were maybe 60th in 20 yard plays. This defense would look a lot better, would be undefeated and we would be rolling toward the ACC ship. Yet here we are giving up chunk plays. So who is at fault here? Is it Guidry or is it a bunch of guys not doing there job collectively? Think about last years Canes bball team, they were an abomination for second half of year. Was the Coach L's problem? Or a bunch of guys that did not know how to play together? It's hard to figure out man. This is the root of it. If you look at yards per play allowed, success rate allowed, a lot of “down to down” metrics, it’s not THAT bad. But all year, we’ve just been obliterated by big plays. And that tells me people are out of position way too often.
126th in % of 20 yard plays. For ***** sake.
Well you see...context, culture, Manny, Banda, Addae, Steele, Gattis, Gattis and Addae again because they deserve two mentions, No D's GT game, Gus Felder, Patke, Jennifer Strawley and Mack Brown's handshake. For starters. So our talent is not up to par w Cal, Va Tech, & GT?

Not disagreeing with you, to play devils advocate here…roster to roster it was a much better situation.
My indictment in Guidry is the level of Safety play, not just this year but last. It’s his position group..Kam and JW were in the wrong spot, wrong reads a good amount last year.
Blown coverages being the common denominator by his position group is a major concern. It’s clear how he is coaching it up in film, practice, walkthroughs is not translating to the players..at all.
All things considered, there is enough servicable talent back there, it’s the same gameplan from the opposition since USF (really where it started). Reeks of smartest guy in the room.

Because coaches in those situations know the hand they've been dealt, as do the players, and adjust accordingly. The promise of talent, from both perspectives, I think can be destructive.
He didn't just roll out with a 3-3-5 without seeing the players excute it well in practice. Which should tell you that these players probably look worse when they try to play anything other than man in practice or else he would of switched it up like we saw him do last yearThe thing I just can’t comprehend is how has the defense gotten this much worse in year 2 under the same DC? It looked like LG was trying to get it figured out last year with the 3-3-5 alignment but this year he just doesn’t seem to be as engaged. He can’t have forgotten how to coach defense. Just a really strange year for the defensive coaches in general.
I get what you are trying to do. I just don't get why.How do u say roster to roster? Elko inherited a team that went 12-13 w/ the current players on the roster. U’re basing this off the recruitment of Jumbo, which u should, which proves that it wasn’t a talent issue vs. coaching issue. That’s my point.
It’s like when I was arguing w/ GSW about Steph, & they were ****ed J West kept him over Monte Ellis. I told them Steph is not the problem, the problem is how he’s being used. Kerr comes in, & all of a sudden Steph becomes a Demi-God shooter & play maker. Being around sports all of my life, having the absolute honor to pick the brains of some of the all time greats in both basketball, & football, I can unequivocally tell u most of the time when u have guys not reaching their potential, it’s coaching.
For every Ben Simmons, there’s a Jimmy Butler who got around the right coach that pushed him to be a borderline HOFer. Look at Chad Thomas under Golden vs. Richt for instance, & there’s millions of examples of this.
