Mario defenders - Let’s hears those excuses

Lol. 2 yrs? Besides Willie Taggart, can you name a coach that’s been given 2 yrs?

Not really sure why ppl think that due to NIL, all of a sudden yr 1 is going to fix things, b/c NIL is being more geared towards either

a) HS Seniors. And if think a class full of true freshmen in CFB is going to change ur fortunes in yr 1, I have prime real estate in Jonestown, right now for sale.

b) Players already on ur roster. So if ur roster sucks……

Transfer Portal can definitely work out. Let’s see, a coach in the era of NIL, transfer portal who sucked yr 1. Hmmmm; Oh, yeah…Mel Tucker!

U guys r killing me, smalls. The examples I gave WERE ALL TWO YEARS. Is there an anomaly here in my backyard that shows you “can” be successful in yr 1? Yes; Lincoln Riley is showing that; but, Lincoln Riley literally brought over his own 5 star QB, & 2 of his 4 star WRs that were already familiar w/ his playbook & language, along w/ the #1 portal player in Jordan Addison. What players did Mario bring w/ him?

That’s y it’s called an anomaly, vs. the norm. The overwhelming history of CFB, DESPITE era & resources shows the most successful coaches we know took 2-3 yrs, TOPS, to turn things around, inheriting a cluster fck. That includes Mario himself. (And let’s stop acting like Miami’s resources are on the same level of big state schools).

Again, can we at least wait til next season, or better yet, how about allowing this season to finish up before running the man out?
What I meant by 2 years is if they don’t improve from year one to year 2 the writing is on the wall going into year 3. Im also not running him out but through 4 games I’ve watched an embarrassing product and that in my opinion comes from his inability to adapt offensively. Im already assuming Mario will have to can Gattis after one year or Gattis leaves on his own. That’s never a good omen either

That’s fair; I also agree on the yr 2 timeline. I’ve always held firm that a coach needs no more than 3 yrs on any level of football. In the NFL u have the draft & FA. In CFB u now have the portal to couple w/ HS recruiting. Yr 2 gives a strong indication & yr 3, in todays climate, tells u what u have officially.

I mentioned something similar. Having a bad first year in and of itself is not a killer, a number of NC winning coaches experienced the same. However, there are some major concerns I see with Mario

1) He is neither an expert/specialist on O nor D. He will always be dependent on coordinators
2) His offensive philosophy which we all now by now is very bad......It has been confirmed by former team fans and former players who left his program as a result of his archaic philosophy. The media also is calling it out. At Miami, it will get LOUD from fans and local media. He will NOT avoid it at Miami. He doesn't have a killer mentality.
3) He is a very shaky and poor gameday coach. A slow decision maker, hesitant and shook. For a guy who exhibits 1, and 2.....he MUST be a sharp gameday manager. He is not, I watched him at Oregon and he drove those fans crazy too.

In order to be successful Mario has to fix at LEAST 2 of those 3 things. Personally, I would never hire a coach who didn't bring an expert skill on one of the two sides of the ball.
i disagree
You don’t need any other skill set
Mario has the greatest skill set there is
Which is elite recruiting
His issue is what separates the good from the legendary
The top level guys in any field are always adjusting
And changing their ways and innovating
Mario’s problem is he’s stuck in a mold
And thinks he can win his way
He’s not flexible
Once he can change that we’re golden
Like Sam Pittman
Is as much ground and pound as Mario
And is cut from a similar mode
But he brought in briles to run a modern offense

Nope. There have been plenty of great recruiters who failed because they couldn’t coach or didn’t hire the right coordinators. And guys who won with marginal recruiting and elite X’s and O’s Spurrier was a lazy non elite recruiter. Zook was a GREAT recruiter. Chizick/Malzahn won and NC at Auburn with pure coaching plus Megatron. Urban Meyer, a scum bag who used other peoples players to win NC’s with his X’s and O’s

I would argue that elite X’s and O’s Can win huge with decent/solid talent. And elite recruiters/talent can flop with marginal X’s and O’s (happens all of the time)

And also, We will see just how “Elite” Mario is with recruiting when he actually brings in those players.

Scoreboard check:

-The Famous Lane Kifffin:
Stop 1 USC. Took over a 9-4 program. Went 8-5 yr 1, 10-3 yr 2

Stop 2 Ole Miss. Took over a 4-8 program. Went 5-5 yr 1, 10-3 yr 2

-The Legend Nick Saban (SEC version)
Stop 1 LSU. Took over a 3-8 LSU program. Went 8-4 yr 1, 10-3 yr 2

Stop 2 Bama. Took over a 6-7 Bama program. Went 7-6 yr 1, 12-2 yr 2

-Pete Carroll
Took over a 5-7 USC program. Went 6-6 yr 1, 11-2 yr 2

-Mark Richt
Stop 1 UGA. Took over an 8-4 UGA program. Went 8-4 yr 1, 13-1 yr 2

Stop 2 Miami. Took over a 6-7 Miami program. Went 9-4 yr 1, 10-3 yr 2

-Mario Cristobal (P5)
Took over a 7-6 UO program. Went 9-4 yr 1, 12-2 yr 2

-Urban Meyer (P5)
Took over a 7-5 UF program. Went 9-3 yr 1, 13-1 yr 2

-Jim Tressel (The Vest)
Took over a 8-4 OSU program. Went 7-5 yr 1, 13-1 yr 2 (on record it’s 14-0, but we all know we won that game in Arizona!!)

-Bob Stoops
Took over a 5-6 OU program. Went 7-5 yr 1, 13-0 yr 2

Then you have guys like Gary Patterson, or Dave Aranda that took over a winning program of 10+ wins & looked like laughing stocks in yr 1 (Patterson 6-6 / Aranda 2-7), but then looked like home run hires in yr 2 (Patterson 10-2 / Aranda 12-2).

Then you have guys like Dabo, & sorry Panthers fans, Rhule who took 3 yrs to build their programs into contenders. From Bobby Bowden, Bear Bryant, Steve Spurrier, Joe Pa…u can do down the list & see all of these great coaches struggle yr 1 and turn it on by yr 2, NO LATER than yr 3.

Be mad at the MTSU loss; but stop the overreaction after game 4 of a new regime.

TrumpyCane thinks you forgot one other guy

Manny Diaz

6-7 to 8-3!

TrumpyCane is sorry

Defenders? Who’s left? What more evidence is needed? At this point, anyone declaring him even a competent coach need’s professional help.

Firing him today would literally be the best thing the program could do in my opinion.

I mean this isn't what I even envisioned. It's worse. 2 full years in and same tired ba is spewing like vomit from the staff. Poor GameDay coaching. Hey recruiting is up? I think money is up.

I have no reason to believe Dawson will be any different next year. The offense will be subpar. And those that have already stated offensive talent will hit the portal faster than they came. I'd be worried about that already. This is kids lives, the ones that want to make to the league. How can anyone take this seriously right now? I want to. Jokes on me.
