Your point wasn't clear then. You said it only took Fran 1 year to build a roster then say it is going to take Mario 5 to build a championship roster. The difference is pretty important. 9-3 in the ACC isn't a championship roster.


The bigger question is HOW did Syracuse score the same against Miami as Holycross? UNLV was OT and all others gave up fewer points to Cuse than Miami. That is the question of the day. Talent is better at Miami than ALL of the others.

The point is, the narrative of needing 5 yrs to build a roster to compete & play for championships on any level (Conference or Nat’l) is a made up CIS narrative to protect Mario.

We didn’t hear this narrative for Golden, Shannon, Richt, or Diaz. I threw in championship b/c that’s the narrative of CIS, not football fans. Real CFB fans know that u can build & sustain a roster w/in 2 cycles, 3 at the most; ****, & w/ the advent of the Transfer portal, we’re seeing it w/in 1.

U’re absolutely right about the defense giving up that amount of points to Cuse, & I highly that in a private chat. The fact is, if we didn’t have Ward, we lose to Cal, VA Tech, UL as well b/c the def was leaky af, despite having a huge talent gap.

It shouldn't take 5 years in the modern era of CFB at a place like Miami who is spending money for the first time with NIL, transfer portal and Miami being in the most fertile recruiting area in the nation. Those Canes fans who say different and Miami needs 5 years, they are delusional! As you said, the current 1st time and 1 year HC at Syracuse took the roster mostly left by Dino Baber and went 9 and 3 with it. Syracuse isn't spending money like Miami. They aren't recruiting like Miami and getting transfer like Miami. Yet, they looked prepared and coached well pretty much for all their games, this year. That can't be said about Miami despite going 9 and 0! We saw the issue with the defense since last year with Guidry! Not setting the edge, gap integrity, blown assignment, also out of position, poor tackling, lack of speed at certain position, FB IQ and etc.

If it takes a coach a few years to build a playoff contending program year in year out that’s fine with me

But that doesn’t mean you get to go ahead and get blown out by MTSU and forget to take a knee when a game is over either

Good coaches can immediately make their programs competitive even if it takes them a few years to get over the hump

We are a few years in with the best QB I’ve seen here and are just now approaching the hump like we are coming back from the death penalty or some ****

9-3 for cuse is a dam good year esp in year 1. it wasnt like he was left a loaded roster. we went 5-7 in year 1 with a roster that went 21-15 over three years (which is better than what Fran inherited).
