Mario and Talent Acquisition

Talent acquisition isn't the issue just like it wasn't with Butch. Mario can succeed if he stacks enough talent here. But that's the case for just about everyone. Sure every year a Boise St or Indiana sneaks through and surprises but the championship teams have the most talent.
This is exactly why I am not willing to give up on him. Talent is going to overcome coaching prowess and scheming 7 times out of 10. This will be the MOST talented team we've had in a long time. If we stumble to 7-5 and the 2026 class is a dud, then I'll buy a ticket on the Fire Mario train.

Talent acquisition isn’t a huge concern for me…

As others have pointed out dropping 3 of our last 4 and again not getting better (as a team) as the season went on is a huge issue for me. If we are being honest teams were able to figure us out. And we did nothing about it. The way UF was playing at the end of the year compared to how we were playing… if we played them again that game doesn’t look the same for us.

I watched a good amount of teams… many are the same teams we expect to be on par with get better in November. Kicked it in another gear. We didn’t show that and that’s not a good feeling because the things that were an issue for us in November were prevalent in EARLY OCTOBER and we didn’t do anything to fix because we won right?

Not a good long term plan.
Talent acquisition is an absolute concern for me. Especially, on defense. Year 4 roster doesn’t look much improved to Diaz and CMR teams if we are being honest. The ROI is not there in my opinion and this is concerning to me.

I absolutely believe we were “talented” enough to keep Cal under 38 points seeing that WF was the only other ACC school to let them score more. And talented enough to keep ISU under 42 points seeing that Baylor was the only other FBS school that allowed them to score more. We were the only conference opponent that allowed Syracuse to get 40+ points. So yeah the talent could be better but that isn’t nowhere near the real problem here. The defense wasn’t coached up to maximize their potential. Not even close.

There's a huge disconnect on talent acquisition & development when you compare the offense + defense with this current regime, coaching too. Not having the right coaches and recruiting the right guys has played out exactly as it should considering how bad MC has botched that side of the operation. But people shouldn't forget how bad Manny's defenses regressed yearly or how putrid CMR's offense became with baby Richt as qb coach.
