Mario’s comment today re: recruiting

Last W vs a non-con P5 opponent: 2017 ND
Last W vs a non-con P5 opponent away from Miami: 2016 WVU
Last W vs a road non-con P5 opponent: 2010 Pitt when they were still in the Big East
Last road W vs a ranked non-con P5 opponent: 2003 vs FSU when we were in the Big East
Last W vs a ranked non-con P5 opponent that isn’t now in the ACC: 2002 at UF

Pardon me if I lack the confidence some of y’all have
This makes me very sad

Lmao but but but Mario. These mfs acting like he inherited the BAMA roster. We're 2 years minimum away from having the dudes to expect winning these games.
I think we can win, but it’s not some layup just because ATM lost to App St. We haven’t won a game like this in 20 years and our faithful fans are acting like we are going to stroll into Jonestown and soul snatch a team that recruits at a top 7 level

I don’t believe that college teams are ever better because of a loss. These are 18-23 year olds and they all have fragile egos. And losses shatter egos, especially losses to perceived inferior teams (App St is pretty good). Coaches may get their **** together after a loss, but players and their 18-23 year old fans get shook after a loss.

Well then that’s what it is and you very well may be right. I’ll wait to reserve judgement as long as I can.
The goal is to win games. Last year our offense was fun to watch and every game was a nail biter but for Bama, Duke and that team from Connecticut. Maybe he’s right that winning by 10 points 27-17 is the recipe even if it means grinding teams down and playing “boring” football.

I agree, I’d rather do that and win but I have to think that they can integrate some of the Lashlee-type passing concepts to be even more effective.

It's the same thing every year. Last year before MSU you would have thought we were the defending champions.

I don’t get anyone being confident in us winning this game. We could win sure, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we win, but aTm could also bounce back exploiting our edge and LB’s while bottling up the run and forcing the focus on to our WRs and short passing game. I don’t know where we are really in the scheme of things. This game will say a lot.

We were a hot and cold team. We need consistency and the ability to maintain drives. We have been explosive plays or nothing for a long time. Time to balance it out.

The opportunities are there. TVD is adjusting. When it clicks, this will be a team people don’t want to play.

Not worried about being blown out by Texas A&M. Worried about making costly mistakes that gift them points. Not even too worried about their players if I'm honest. They shown nothing special yet they have good players who could raise their game. Will we raise ours or be beaten by the occasion
I’m never worried about a Jimbo coached team. However, you’re right about costly errors.

I'd say 0 ppl on this board know how this game is gonna go. It's an exciting matchup because it's more of a litmus test. A lot of people are confusing Texas A&M playing poorly with being less talented. 20 years of losing these types of games should be evidence teams turn it up when they play Miami.

Jimbo is the Joker in the deck.

As an OC - he pretty much sucks.

Ours? Sure hasn't used our QB, speed, and quickness - we look bland. Stale. Sleepy.

Might come down to - "Who is Worser?"

The guy WITH a QB and won't use him - or the guy WITHOUT a QB and can't use him.

Thing is against So Miss. we still ran close to 80 plays and TVD completed 21 of 30 passes. If he made the proper read or better throws a few times he likely has over 300 yards passing. Fact is we shouldn't have to throw it 50 times to beat Bethune or So Miss. The nice thing is unlike Oregon or Michigan last year if they need to throw 50 times they have a guy who can do it.

We have run 143 plays this year (good for 16th in the country but that is lower than it should be since a couple of teams above us have played 3 games). Not sure if that includes FG, punts etc. but mister fast paced Lashlee at SMU has run 132 in 2 games. Granted small sample size, etc. but even with us scoring so quickly on Bethune we are still averaging a tick over 71 plays for game which I believe is right around where we were last year.

Great statistical points. I suspect the reason we have runs more plays than SMU is that we are having longer drives because of our ability to grind out first downs. And we are definitely running a lot more plays than our opponent. For anyone who doesn’t understand the significance of that fact, they should understand that App St won in large part because TAM only ran 39 offensive plays all game.

Lashlee’s offense will rack up yards and points because he has some really creative passing plays. I’d love him as a “passing game coordinator”. But that same offense had so many 3 and outs that our defense simply played too many plays for long term, consistent winning football.

But the 2 culprits last week were TVD missing on some check downs and penalties. If we played even an average offensive game last week we score 40.

Exactly. On paper they have more talent at every offensive position. This won’t be light work.
