Manny "Savage" Diaz can't recruit and that is a problem

Can't argue your point except Smart went to a program that wasn't in 'decline" and came from a NC program, which time with the liar (gaytors or suckeyes) and sabag (MSU, LSU, baga)? Arguments can be made pro/con. Considering all the circumstances, Manny seems to headed I nthe right direction. Time will tell.

Granted, but still similar, right? Kirby is a former DC with 0 HC experience taking over for Mark Richt. Diaz has Enos, the would be OC of Alabama and former assistant to Saban. I don't see a reason why Miami should play second fiddle to Georgia with regards to S. Fl recruits particularly BEFORE UGA competed in the playoffs.
If Miami did what was described in this article:

We would be securing S. Fl recruits. Kirby turned recruiting into a "Ferrari" and there's no reason Diaz can't do the same with the same tactics.

You do realize that UGA is literally one of the biggest bag dropping schools in the nation right?

The playing field is not even & the situations aren't comparable. Miami doesn't have the same resources to spend on recruiting nor the booster base to aggressively pay recruits hundreds of thousands of dollars under the table.

I disagree, because I've heard this argument before. Keep in mind Miami's per capita income eclipses the Athens, Ga's per capita income. S. Fl can drop bags if it wanted to, and I would wager it does, we just assume it wouldn't dare with our bad press. Let's take the bag game off the table for a moment, because without hard evidence, we can't make an apples to apples comparison. Bags are dropped, but we don't know who pays what.

Miami has a ton of non alumni who wear Canes gear and attend games. The population of S. Fl is massive and even considering it is riddled with competitor fans, the resources are there.

The difference lies within the program itself. Focus on the "legal" approach to recruiting. More support staff, more mailers, more studies of kid film and more contact. The top teams are poaching our kids with tactics beyond the "bag game."

I agree with you 100% that Manny needs to step it up with recruiting, but I don't think the per Capita income thing really matters in this case. The majority of Miami residents(especially the mega rich) don't give af about spending money on Miami football. Plus all of the wealthy people that "Live in Miami" purely because of tax benefits and in case they catch a case.

In Athens you have the entire town donating their extra income towards their football teams.

Add to the fact that all those one-horse towns don't have to compete with the NFL, MLB, and the NBA for attention. College football is the only game in town and the majority of the residents have been there for generations.

Manny's facing an uphill battle for sure but one thing he has going for him, he understands the challenges and seems to using every resource available to overcome those challenges.

There was a time I would have laughed off the possibility of Miami ever selling more season tickets than Florida State, and yet here we are.

I understand the landscapes are different, but you just need a handful of mega wealthies to turn the tide of cash flow in S. Fl.

No offense, but you don’t get how the bag game works with boosters ... and you don’t understand Miami demographics vs big state SEC schools. Let me guess, you’ve never lived in S. Florida. At least I hope so, because if you haven’t, you’re the most unobservant person ever.

@Liberty City El is 100% correct.

Well, you're wrong. I was born and raised in S. Fl and graduated Miami in 2000. Have I "observed" the bag game? No. If I did, then so could the NCAA in which case the lid gets blown off the entire thing.

just throwing this out there, and i know its on athens but close enough (within 2 hours), ATL pays more on average than SFL and has a lower cost of living lol

Again, how did Kirby Smart do in his first year at this point? Jimbo Fisher? Urban Meyer? Saban? It's an ongoing theme that Miami is not in the same league when it comes to recruits in its own backyard. Heck, even Richt pulled in better recruits when his office was in Athens!

Jimbo’s first class was 7th (10th on Rivals)
Saban didn’t start pulling #1 classes right away at LSU
Urban Meyer’s first season with UF pulled the #12 class
The only one that killed it before coaching a game was Kirby.
Relax.

Lol at the NCAA caring. Article comes out saying LSU boosters stole money from a children’s hospital for football recruits and ESPN and the NCAA could care less. We are not on the same field with those schools

When it comes to Miami...they care.

Do you think we maintain a top 10 class come NSD? I don't.

Miami needs to focus on its strengths, which are:
(1.) it is a top-50 school and climbing ---> i.e. a $200,000 diploma versus a worthless piece of paper from the University of the "Sticks";
(2.) its location - diverse city, adjacent to South Beach and a plethora of hot Mammas versus KKK land, the land of women with no teeth;
(3.) it is a pro City with the Dolphins next door (we should see if we can develop stronger ties with the Pro team and visit more).

Miraculously, our facilities are now as good as any team in the country and will be for the foreseeable future.

The one area in which we cannot compete in is: paying recruits. These Foundations have been around for over 20 years. Hopefully, the FBI and IRS eradicate them at some point, but for now, UM needs to develop a Board by position that is 5-deep and land the recruits the Foundations do not want (or the recruits that love the "crib" so much that they opt to eschew the $200,000 payment). Even with this type of talent, UM should be playing Clemson for the ACC Championship 4 out of every 5 years. UM has to win 10 games a year for the foreseeable future. Develop a first rounder every year and stay in the top 10 consistently.

That should be the goal for the near to long-term....

Lol Urban had the #1 class in his first full cycle
