Maalik Murphy to the portal

Texas has hundreds, maybe thousands of John Ruiz’s. Only difference is Ruiz although loud on social media isn’t demanding coaches bow down to him. He’s not toxic inside the program and trying to run it

Texas has all these huge , big money boosters having a battle of egos at all times. That’s why that job is by far the most toxic in the country and coaches are dead before they’ve had their first presser. Bama was the same way, it took a bigger , more headstrong leader in Saban to put them in check. He came in with a game plan and told them the strategy “ give me the money , do as I say and stfu”. People forget how big of a mess that job has turned into before Nick. Nobody would touch it.

There's a reason they say Mack Brown was the best politician in Texas when he was head coach there.

Always wondered why coaches weren't winning at Texas or why they can't get the big name guys like Lincoln Riley etc.

Some guys just don't want to deal with everyone in the State of Texas truly believing that they know more about your football team than you do.

Soooo Basically.... UTexas has like a couple hundred or so Jerry Jones wannabes, running around trying to be shot callers. That would not be the job for just any coach to take. to take. The only way Saban was able to bring Bama back from the ashes, was that
A. It was not as many big dollar boosters to appease, and ....
B. They had just had their egos stroked by "stealing" Saban from the Dolphins. They figured they had dropped all this money on him, so it was best to listen to him. So they got onboard.

It would take somebody special to fix Texas like Saban did Bama. A big ego , resume, name and **** lol.

100% facts.

The Boosters at UT absolutely run the program from top to bottom & not in a quiet behind the scenes way as just the money men, they literally tell the Coach what to do & who to play, they ride on the team plane with the players for every road game, they sit in on team meeetings & dictate nearly every decision that gets made within the program.

They’re beyond anything most Canes fans would ever imagine considering we’ve for the longest always had Boosters who had no idea what a Football looked like lol

Herman was doing pretty well there (especially compared to what they’ve been for the last decade), but he wouldn’t sing their “I’ve been working on the railroad” song so they fired him for a much worse coach. Toxic is the perfect word to describe that situation.

I have a buddy that went to UT and follows the program obsessively. Whenever we would talk about our two programs he always said regarding booster involvement and spending that UT was the Anti Miami. Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. The biggest problem wasn't so much that they wanted to be involved but it was that there was always competing sides to everything, like they could never come to a consensus, and that was the biggest detriment.

He said imagine Buddy Garrity from Friday Night Lights but as a billionaire oil tycoon. Now imagine 100 of him and that's what Texas is dealing with lol.

Quinn/Arch will be Sark's undoing.

Picture this scenario - Quinn wins the starting job in the summer but Arch does well enough that he makes it somewhat interesting. Texas (and Quinn) start off the year 4-3 and Quinn looks shaky. Sark gets a lot of pressure to start Arch. He starts Arch and (expectedly) Arch plays poorly and that team ends the year 7-6 and Sark gets fired.

Post script: Quinn has to battle it out with Arch the following spring, he says nope and then transfers to colorado.

Only politics would have Manning ahead of Murphy. To me, he should be pushing for QB1 if we are going by talent.
He & Quinn Ewers in terms of pure arm talent are two ELITE passers.

The only edge up Ewers has on him is experience with his year as a starter, even though he got hurt & couldn’t finish out the season.

But Maalik with the right OC can be a DANGEROUS QB; size, unbelievable arm talent, strength, ball velocity, placement & has enough mobility to escape the pocket & pick yards in the run game.

I just have this weird feeling both Miami and UF are going to get into a bidding war for him (contingent on TVD leaving).

Don’t think he sticks around if he has an opportunity to walk into a starting job at a respectably large P5 program.

SMU, TTech, TCU, OH ST, OK ST, UCLA & Tennessee should all be back-channeling offering him a Mega NIL deal.

We would find out the answer to the discussion whether or not HS QB recruiting matters and can it be easily replaced by portal recruiting real real quick if that happened.
