This had nothing to do with basketball, 100% about football. ACC please keep your trap shut about academics.

I think Louisville got in as a partial qualifier. So much for the ACC maintaining their reputation as an elite academic conference.
Again, this does nothing for football, other than add ANOTHER average team with no defense to an already terrible football conference. This move reeks of desperation by the ACC. I wish they would do me a favor and fold the conference already.

Lets be realistic, the ACC is a piece of **** as a football conference. It is by far, the least attractive of the major conferences.

Agreee, Louisville smacks of desperation. When the Big Ten comes to get UNC and UVA they are gone.

You may be right. If we have learned anything, it's that the conference musical chairs is all about the money. Schools are selling themselves to the highest bidder, much like any other street *****.

The Big East was far worse...and it has now become a mid-major.

The ACC, different from all of the other conferences, prided itself on a certain level of academic prestige.

This most recent move kind of counteracts that. But still, having Louisville doesn't diminish the academic quality of the other institutions. Louisville is a marginally better football school...UConn is its peer in basketball...but UConn is a more prestigious academic institution...but, it doesn't bring in a new market.

The ACC has, and will always be a conference that is dictated by Florida State and Miami. Just like when Ohio State and Michigan are down, the Big10 is seen as less prestigious in any given year. But, the Big10 hasn't had go to a decade+ without their premier institutions being relevant nationally.

The Big XII just has so much money tied up in the big Universities that they DO have, make them a powerhouse.

The ACC will stop being a piece of **** when FSU and Miami stop being mediocre football teams. VaTech and Clemson have upheld their end of the deal being second tier programs in the conference...Miami and FSU have not upheld their end as Tier 1, with FSU in and out of Tier 2 and 3, with Miami consistently in Tier 3.

Being realistic...if Miami and FSU ever hold up on their end...the ACC will catch up with the rest of the country. Can't rely on VaTech and Clemson to do it.

If both those two teams are at the level of 1999-2003 this conference would be in talks as a challenge to the SEC. You have your alabam lsu/florida (depends on the year) top teams (FSU Miami), your South Carolina/UGA top 15s who add prestige (clemson vtech), and a solid team that can compete some years in your arkansas (UNC). Problem with this conference is were all too middle heavy so we keep adding up random losses. If Miami and FSU truly return to top 5 status, we ballin

Larry, totally get your point, and you may be right. My sense still is though, that the ACC is the 5th best football conference, and always will be, and in a world moving towards four sixteen team superconferences, we need to move to one of the those four.

where else could we go the BIG EAST. We aren't going anywhere and don't offer much to the other conferences...

Clint Hurtt gets immunity and then gets to coach in the ACC, sickening.

One can only hope that some other university is dumb enough to hire Strong and then he takes Hurtt with him. Once he fails at his next gig, Hurtt will be out as well and all will be good as far as I am concerned.

imma be honest ....i always thought the acc was/is a better conference than the BIG 10.
Whats so POWERFUL bout that conference...that the acc is supposedly seen as the worst bcs conference>?

Here is the problem.

The SEC won't take Miami...it provides the no new market. Miami is an awesome national TV draw but it doesn't put them in any new homes.
The Big XII would take FSU over Miami to get into the Florida market.
The Big 10 would be Miami's only viable alternative...but, if FSU sticks around and the ACC can hold form as is, they should be confident enough in their own ability to bring the ACC on par with the 10...Notre Dame eventually joining the ACC helps them out.
The Pac12 isn't a viable option.

The ACC just hasn't provided any candidates at the top of college football for it to be considered a viable alternative to a conference like the 10. ACC is awful out of conference. Over the past decade, to be fair, the ACC and Big10 are generally, equally terrible come bowl season (the Big East actually proved to be superior come bowl season over the past decade).

I would venture to say the 10 is overrated in this discussion and the ACC is rated right where they should be. Most people dismiss the ACC as being a major conference on par with the big dogs...but the 10 is constantly revered in that way...and, its just not. But, then again, its a one horse race...Ohio State has been THE dominant program over the past decade in the conference, winning over 90 games, finishing in the Top 5 in like 7 years...it changes the perspective when you constantly field a team at the top of the standings year in and year out. Even during down years, you have a viable tier 2 school in Wisconsin playing well. To compare...it'd be like Miami and/or FSU finishing in the Top 5 every year, and on the occasional year they have off, the normally 9-3/10-2 VaTech Hokies go to the bowl game...in this case, the ACC is always sending the 10-2/9-3 VaTech Hokies to the BCS as our best representative...just ain't a good look.

Miami's best chance is that the Big 12 goes all in and takes FSU, Miami, Clemson and NC State.
