Louisiana WR Racey McMath

Rivals is a pointless exercise, but just for the sake of the argument, here are the Florida 2017 WR rankings:

1. Jerry Juedy (Alabama/5 stars) - Only "miss" that I see but previous staff never recruited him

2. Trevon Grimes (OSU/5 stars) - He's from Indiana so difficult to truly call him a Florida kid

3. DJ Matthews (FSU/4 stars) - From Jacksonville, doesn't look like he had an offer

4. James Robinson (4 stars) - From Lakeland, doesn't look like we offered

5. Jhamon Ausbon (TAMU/4 stars) - Moved to IMG from Houston

6. Mike Harley (4 stars) - Stand a good chance of landing him

7. Daquon Green (UF/4 stars) - From Tampa/UF country

So by my count, there are only 7 WR's in the top 250 from Florida, with 5 of actually from Florida, and 1 of them from South Florida. I just think it's a down year at WR across the board.

Sounds like Racey is trying to pull a fast one on the Miami to get a free Vacation to Miami while he waits on LSU to let him commit. Which is unfortunate because Miami could use a few more quality WR's in the 2017 class.

LSU among official visits on deck for Karr WR Racey McMath
Amos Morale III, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune December 13, 2016

Throughout the season it didn't seem to matter how many times Karr's Racey McMath was asked about his recruitment, his answer was always that he was focused on winning a state championship. Well Saturday night he won the Class 4A championship with his teammates in a convincing victory against Neville where he scored two touchdowns.

"I reached my goal, got the ring, so now I'm about to take my official visits," McMath said.

Texas A&M, LSU, Miami, Mississippi State and Florida will receive McMath's five official visits and he said that the Tigers and Bulldogs are recruiting him the hardest.

McMath had good things to say about all the programs. With regards to LSU, he praised the job new head coach Ed Orgeron did after Les Miles was fired.

"They turned into an all-around better team," McMath said. "I saw them passing the ball a little more, they won a few more games. It was like they were more comfortable with each other."

McMath said that LSU feels like home to him.

"I feel comfortable when I'm up there," he said. "When I go up there for an unofficial they treat me like I'm already there."

He had similar things to say about Mississippi State as well saying "they treat me like LSU does."

He however isn't completely locked into those schools and wants to see what other programs have to offer, which is why Texas A&M, Florida and Miami will get a visit from him.

"Just getting out of the state and exploring new stuff because if it don't work out at LSU, I wouldn't mind getting out of the state and just seeing something different," he said. "I've been in New Orleans, La. all my life."

He has an offer from LSU, I don't believe it is committable though. Most likely LSU is waiting on Smith to make his pick.

that's called not having an offer

He's one of this dummies who thinks you can make an offer that can't be accepted. There's no such thing in the world as an "uncommitable offer."

The term offer, by its very nature, comes with it the ability to accept it. If you can't accept it, then it's not an offer. It's merely interest.

All that matters is if the kids can play.

I don't particularly care how many stars they have. If we have coaches who are good talent evaluators, that's all that matters.

Man what worries me about this staff is that they seem to be okay with going after all these **** 3stars. You can't build a playoff roster doing that. You can have some but not more than 50% of the class being made up of 3stars. Richt didn't do that at uga so why is it happening here?

Coach Butch filled the roster with those numbers and put together the greatest college team of all time. **** star ratings and give me the kid who wants it more.

This narrative is so tired. High school ranking and scouting was no where near as exhaustive back then as it is now. Do players still fall through the cracks, sure but it's much more rare now a days than it was back then. A lot of those guys Butch signed would be 4* in these days. Stars matter, any argument to the contrary is wrong. The numbers don't lie.

If he is waiting on an LSU offer, I suppose (LSU) is waiting to see what happens with Smith before offering him. It looks like it all could be a game of WR dominoes. But it also sounds like this kid McMath prefers Miss St. if he doesn't get the LSU offer. Crappy timing to have a bad year for WR prospects in S. Fla., because it's always long odds going up to SEC country looking for elite prospects. We will nab one now and then, but it's not great odds chasing talent up there.

I'd advise you to commit ASAP...work out the details later

High School evaluations will always be difficult. Kids will always come into the picture out of nowhere. Recruiting web sites will all fallow each others stars.
Kids will not go to camps. Kids will have injuries. Kids will be tall and thus get better star ratings. Kids will go to feeder programs and get a star bump. Kids will have off field issues. Star bumps will go to schools that develop kids and thus make web sites over think their previous ratings.

The ESPN 300 is amazing work if the evaluators went and watched live all 300 kids. You got to see a kid live to get the overall feel for his game. Video full game films do not lie but they do not always tell the full picture. And that is just 6 kids from each state. You guys can not possibly think that 5000 kids coming into college every year is going to be evaluated properly.

Can we kill the narrative of stars being the only deciding factor on if a player will be successful or not or the fact that we believe that we should only be bringing in 4 and 5 star players. There are hundreds of cases where the recruiting services get ratings wrong in all sports and just because you can google something that states that star ratings equal success doesn’t mean it is the only thing that matters. Winning schools/coaches (Saban/Meyer) get highly touted recruits, this should be common sense and not Earth shattering.

Only .6% of all high school players are rated 3 stars or higher by Rivals with only .13% being 4 or 5 stars. This means that getting a 3 star is not a bad thing. They are rated in the top .6% of all high school football players. I would venture to say that most of us have never been rated in the top .6% of anything...in our lives...ever...

Saying that four and five stars have a higher chance of being great is a no **** statement. This is saying that the top .1% of rated recruits are more successful...equivalent to saying that kids who get perfect ACT/SAT scores are generally more likely to have good jobs later in life (you actually have a better chance of getting a perfect ACT/SAT score than being rated a 5 star player).

The job of the coach of a program that hasn't won a bowl game in 10 years and averaged only 7.1 wins per year in that time (2006-2015) is to get the best recruits that will attend our university and help us win. How many teams that averaged 7 wins for the last decade get any 5 star recruits or even very many high 4 star recruits? We as fans need to understand where we are as a program. We are not Alabama (with their 4 NCs in the past decade) and therefore we must build with the players we can get and develop.

Butch Davis built the program back up in the late 90’s with kids who were overlooked by other programs and the highly touted guys did not come until the team started winning (2000-2005).

I will take our 4 losses this year (total of 32 points) over last year’s losses (112 points, not counting bowl loss of 6 points) and think we are moving in a better direction than the previous staff.

.New Orleans WR Racey McMath gave the LSU coaches no choice but to offer him
METAIRIE, La. — It was quite the week for Racey McMath, one of the top New Orleans prospects in the Class of 2017.

It started when the three-star wide receiver earned an offer from LSU on Friday morning, then celebrated his birthday three days later.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder from Edna Karr High School (New Orleans) had good reasons to celebrate both occasions, and told SEC Country that his latest offer from the in-state Tigers signaled a major development in his recruitment.

“It felt great because I know that I’ve been working for it,” McMath said. “I thought I was going to have the offer already, but I’ve been working and going to camps. I came to camp, balled out and they gave me the offer.”

Truth be told, McMath gave the LSU coaches no other options.

The wide receiver clocked in a 4.4-second 40-yard dash in front of area recruiter Jabbar Juluke, then caught the attention of wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig with an impressive long jump at the most recent camp in Baton Rouge, La.

McMath topped off his strong measurables with a dominant display during one-on-ones, getting the best of nearly every defensive back he faced.

“They told me I earned it,” McMath said of the LSU coaches. “Testing was good, and that was a big factor. The 4.4 helped me because they like fast players. I know that I just needed to show them that I could make plays and that I’m fast.”

The offer carried a lot of value for the New Orleans native, who had been waiting for the it for the bulk of the spring.

Juluke, Craig and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron had all made stops at Edna Karr during the latest recruiting period to check in on McMath and make it clear that they wanted him to come to camp. Juluke speaks with the wide receiver on a near-daily basis, while Craig has been checking in on McMath and Cameron watched a private workout at the school.

After earning the offer, McMath knows the type of opportunity he has in front of him.

“I got a chance to go to a big Division I school and the SEC,” he said. “They like me and they’ve been looking out for me, and they want me to come out there and play for them. That’s a big school, a great school with good football and education, and they’re high on my list.”

Of course, the budding prospect has an array of options, so he’s still a ways away from finalizing a decision.

McMath holds an offer from Mississippi State and could on the way to procuring ones from Alabama and Florida. The receiver made his second visit to Tuscaloosa, Ala., before attending LSU’s camp, and afterward, made his way to Mississippi State for a second time since the spring.

Though the Tigers are among his leading schools at this stage in the recruiting process, McMath wants to take his time and consider all of his options before committing.

“I don’t know when my decision is going to be. I got to do a lot of visits,” he said, naming Florida as one of the schools he wants to see.

For both of you A-holes I will spell it out. They are called verbal offers vs Written Offer. If you get a committable verbal offer than after sept 1st of your senior year the school will send you a written offer. Also if your verbal offer is committable then the school will accept your verbal commitment before they send out the written offer.

If the verbal offer is not committable then they won't sent you a written offer until they are ready to accept your vertbal commitment. Also if for some reason your a place holder type offer then the school may accept your verbal commitment and then delay sending you a written offer in hopes of landing a better player later.

End of lesson, next time make better choices Francine & PunannyCane
