Played a lot down the stretch last year and was by all accounts the best interior lineman. Whenever he's been on the field, he gets push. The trouble, however, is getting him on the field.

Dafug? He only played in 2 games last year IIRC, BC and USF. In fact, he's played in only 4 games in the last 2.7 years here.

Kid is like the backup QB when the starting QB is struggling. Overemotional, overreacting fans begin to deify him as the "savior". lol.

Smith is one of the worst DTs to start at UM in the last 25 years. He was brought in as a filler, in between classes for depth. Things are so bad, that he has to play a lot.

He is nothing, he does nothing and will do nothing. He is a fat tackling dummy out there, we need help. We need Porter.
 
Porter is going to collapse on his first play and then burst into flames.

Porter is the only DT we have that is capable of disrupting the other team's OL. It would be huge to get him back.

The kid has eligibility left, we need him now.

I don't understand why we would do that if he can contribute quality time NOW. 4 games left, we have zero quality DTs, seems like it makes perfect sense.

I agree. I don't see a point in burning his shirt for 4 games unless we're afraid he's gonna go pro early based on his outstanding résumé

Didn't he already get a medical hardship 2 years ago after getting hurt against OSU? NCAA wouldn't give him a second year if he's clearly healthy enough to play now, however long that lasts.

Correct.

Let's also not forget that DT is the greatest position of need. Currently we have 2 huge HOLES at the position. There is no quality at the position right now, we're not getting any good/quality minutes.

Let's see... after Thursday the next time Mr. Porter will be available to play iiiiiis (scanning date book) October 23, 2014 between 10am-5:30. I suggest you book a game for that day, preferably a noon game, Coach Golden.
