Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

My spring portal priority list

1. WR1
2. NT - NEVER have enough of these

Everything else is whatevs. I want to see alot of fresh blood getting playing time next year.

Need another RB in the room. No way do i feel good about going into the fall with just 4. Bring in a guy who can get 50-75 carries

It’s almost like when you transfer once, your chances of transferring again increases significantly.

Think about the kids that we got via transfer that have already transferred elsewhere. Ajay, Dyoni, Savion, Roberts, Sagopalu, Reese, Gore, Davonte Brown, I’m sure I’m forgetting several more.
It's a microcosm of a bigger issue with some of these kids. It's like they didn't develop any mental fortitude to fight through adversity. That is a terrible mentality in football, let alone in life. Football is a hard spot.

The Riley Williams one is baffling to me.

I pretty sure one of the finance canes fan or data analyst cane fan will put some numbers together on transfers and how many pan out, or if there is a correlation between the two. Maybe it all ready out there.

Insert 6’1 240 lb FB/HB Elijah Lofton.
That’s Lyle, Fletcher, Wheatley/Pringle and Lofton as an emergency.

Would be huge if Fletcher and Lyle go recruit another back, although I question if they want to split carries this year. Last year was unique. This year I think they may want to share the majority of the carries between them two.

I don’t want to bring in another back just to bring one in. Especially one that has multiple years left that likely won’t contend with Fletcher and Lyle. If we absolutely insist, I just hope hes a guy that has ONLY one year left unless he’s special.

I do not get what Riley Williams did. He couldn’t survive one more year away from home? Kid had a chance to be a top 60 pick had he stayed here now he’s likely to rot up there.

We were unusally healthy last year. Respectfully to Fletcher and Lyle, but i dont care if they don't want to split carries with anyone this year.

Only having 4 RBs ( 3 under 200 lbs) and a TE is not god depth and just asking for problems in pass pro.

Lofton should be an integral part of the offense. Considering if he makes it to the NFL he will be a FB/HB, and the lost of Martinez he should be used more than just in emergency. At 6’1-6’2 230-240lbs and talented he could be used in short yardage situations, lead blocker, and still have him flex outside for routes.

So, with almost all schools Spring starting, for those in Portal still, do they take Semester off and hope to land spot by Summer??

I would imagine most had scholarships pulled so really can’t take classes this semester

It's just like quitting bro. Once you quit/ give up on something difficult the first time, the easier it gets the second time, and so on.

Wish we could have kept Ajay - If we can bring in a back w/ Ajay’s talent that is able to challenge Lyle and Fletcher for carries/time, than sure. Just don’t think there will be a comparable guy to him.

I don’t like the idea of just bringing in a body just to serve as RB4/5.

Looking at the Know Your Enemy threads on the main forum, we got several spots we need to shore up in the Spring Portal.

1 - WR; Not sure if we can find a bona fide #1, but at bare minimum we need a surefire #2. Our numbers might be helped if Schott doesn't put on all the weight he needs to be a first year TE, and he works as a jumbo WR like a Mike Gesicki was for the Dolphins.

1 - RB; This one might be tough, but I think we could possibly pull in the Spring Portal a solid #3 RB to play behind Fletcher and Lyle. I don't think we should be relying heavily on Lofton to be in the backfield on an emergency basis, he needs to be that TE threat that happens to run the ball on rare occasion.

1 - DT; IMO, we have DEs and tweeners for days, but I think we have like 4, maybe 5 surefire DTs on the roster, and I'm hoping we can pull a solid rotational DT to shore that up because our depth there is very shaky.

1 - S/Nickel; I think bare minimum we need one of Safety or Nickel, but wouldn't be opposed to getting one of each here. I do think we did get a good infusion of talent from the '25 signing class for Safety, but I don't think we can rely on another OJ playing a freshman All-American season in the defensive backfield this season.

As for QB, TE, OL, LB, DE, and CB, we have the numbers for upperclassmen in year 4 with Mario and I think we just have to roll with what we have and just hope we got what we need.

Good list. The top 4 is critical. We only have 8 wr's on the roster so we need a couple more. For rb I would target a small school type of rb who wants to prove himself at P4 who won't feel he's entitled to carries. And then DT, safety are to me biggest priorities and finally an impact LB, but only if he's a surefire starter type of kid no JAG consideration whatsoever.
