I wasn't going to be the one.

At least we’ve moved past “Don’t portal for a QB because we’ll run off the guys currently in the room”

A qb room of Mendoza/Emory/Judd makes me want to ******* puke.
To be fair it would be: Mendoza, Emory, Nickel and Anderson. Lots of high floor guys.

Idk why Mendoza is getting so much Hate I mean 3000 yards behind that porous OLine + 16 TDs & 6 INTs and as people have said before there is no Cam Ward coming in the Portal.

If we get Mendoza and Dawson coaches him up the same way he coached up Ward (Ward had a MUCH better year with us then WSU in 2023) then I’ll take it. Especially we we shore up the Oline/Dline and Secondary.

Don’t under estimate how much Mendoza could benefit from those “trench babies” just like Ward did lol if he gives us the Hometown discount so we can go after an Elite supporting cast then I have no issues with it.

I'm not a fan of Mendoza but I'll trust some contacts I have that are scouts and independent CFB analysts and grading these guys

Mendoza is currently QB1 in the portal in their eyes, 1 of the 3 people in that space that I've talked to is going die on the Jackson Arnold hill, but has Mendoza at 2.

Serious lack of weapons at WR and a porous OL. Overall, a smart kid, good decision maker, and has arm talent. Very tall to see the field.

Not gonna get Cam Ward with Mendoza and there won't be another one in the portal. I'm not sure how far ahead of Emory I would rate him, it could truly be very close, but I know Mendoza's floor and Emory's is uncertain. The coaches probably have a decent idea as they've seen him more but there's no way to know for sure without game reps and he has 2 games and Mendoza has 2 full seasons of games.

Not a chance I'm going into next year with our schedule, mounting pressure, and a lot on the line with an untested QB. If Mendoza is the answer, I'd be indifferent but more confident than I am with Emory.

We need to shore up the team around the QB much more compared to this year. That's for certain.

Nice, appreciate the insight you shared about what professionals think! I lean the same way. I think they should bring Arnold in the building to see how he’s built mentally before ruling him out, unless they’ve already gotten feedback that he’s not interested of course.

My hope and thought is right now the plan is to round out this roster, specifically on the defensive side and secondary to help put our floor at 10 wins with an Emory.

With QB, I’m not sure there really has been one that will raise our ceiling without lowering the floor. It’s probably safe to assume the staff feels that Emory does that in comparison to what has entered.

Now enter Mendoza, who personally I think does raise that floor and ceiling. I’d personally feel better about next year if we made the necessary moves to the roster and rolled out Mendoza vs Emory, not that Emory can’t get it done. A bit more of an expected floor and higher ceiling IMO.

A Mateer or someone currently in the CFP significantly changes things and those benchmarks.

I liked the idea of Arnold, Mensah, or Van Buren. But not sure how much of a sure thing they are. The thing that really impressed me with Mendoza, was decision making. For how much he was sacked, and lack of talent around him, he did a great job protecting the ball.
