Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

I watched one liberty game this year against Umass and their oline was getting absolutely blown up

I have us sitting at an anticipated 82 scholarships right now for 2025 including punter and kicker and accounting for Arroyo, Sam Brown, and Mesidor not using their remaining eligibility.

I have highlighted as many as 12 spots needed via the portal: QB1, starting slot WR, contributing/starting Z WR, a rotational TE that can block, 1 starting caliber G/C, 2 DTs, 1 LB, 1 nickel, 1 starting boundary corner, 1 starting caliber FS, 1 starting caliber SS

Watching as many as 15, give or take, current guys on the roster that I would not be surprised to see hit the portal. Guys like Emory depend on if we take a QB or not. If we add a starting LB, someone else is leaving that room. If we add a starting OL, someone there is leaving. Etc.

Should be plenty of room. Probably still some room to take some flyers on HS guys that didn't sign or take flyers on FCS/G5 DBs that go under the radar in the portal. Instead of adding 4 DBs, we can add 7-8 and really hope something sticks. Maybe take a few with multiple years of eligibility.

How fast is this dude going to have an offer?

Mario is going to pull him in his office on a visit and say "brother, we have a role for you. Check out this film. This could be you" and put 9 years of McCormick blocking in line and all 6 of his catches up on the big screen and expect him to be rock hard and sign before its over.

BLAKE BOSMA doesn’t have the same ring as CAM MCCORMICK. but we can work with it

I've seen all of these LBs that have hit the portal with crazy tackle #s. And I know that's not the end all be all stat, however, it tells me they at least know where they need to be? And that they at least know how to tackle unlike Kiko.

I think LB & DB are the two rooms we can add a bunch of portal guys in there. I'm not down on Pruitt & Aguirre but when we rotate, the talent level and execution level can't drop off.

I'm all for plugging in one of these tackling machines from a small school like the FIU kid or something. At worst they're a good rotational guy. Similar to Corey Flagg's role in 2023

They usually have something to prove and always play hard. At worst maybe they end up being a vocal leader on defense which we desperately need.

I see our defense now and I don't know who the leader is on that side of the ball.
