I can’t believe I’m saying this, but with our current situation with our defense, I’d occasionally roll out our offense under center. Specific situations, but if we want to control clock to minimize possessions or simply stabilize a game, I’d roll with Lofton at FB or in creative offset formations. Heck, you can even do this out of the pistol. Perhaps it’s too much to ask to swing from wide open to power run, but something needs to be done to control certain games our defense simply cannot manage.
He was on the sideline laying down after the catch. Looked to me the wind got knocked out of him.
I would go into every game assuming there is gonna be a pick 6 and the defense is going to get BBQ'd twice playing too aggressively, if you try to control the game what happens is you have fewer possessions to outplay your mistakes because I don't think the pick 6 tendency or the massive defensive bust tendency is going away if you reduce the total possessions in the game and grind the clock, so those errors just become a bigger percentage of the total points.I can’t believe I’m saying this, but with our current situation with our defense, I’d occasionally roll out our offense under center. I’ve merely suggested controlling the game situationally. The engine of our team is Cam and we need to be wide open and throwing the ball. Occasionally, if we’re out of sorts or it’s a specific game scenario, instead of trying to control the clock from spread formations, my suggestion is to do so from the sets we already have, but rarely use.I would go into every game assuming there is gonna be a pick 6 and the defense is going to get BBQ'd twice playing too aggressively, if you try to control the game what happens is you have fewer possessions to outplay your mistakes because I don't think the pick 6 tendency or the massive defensive bust tendency is going away if you reduce the total possessions in the game and grind the clock, so those errors just become a bigger percentage of the total points.
I really like Lofton so I am all-in using him and using those other sets more and punching teams in the mouth, I don't want us to run down the clock while doing that until the defense gets sorted or until they have a big lead but it can work situationally.I’ve merely suggested controlling the game situationally. Fwiw, building a strategy on the expectation of a pick 6 seems flawed. It’s an outlier.
