Lofton catch. Hip pointer?

Lofton was playing FB on the last first and goal. He looked fine.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but with our current situation with our defense, I’d occasionally roll out our offense under center. Specific situations, but if we want to control clock to minimize possessions or simply stabilize a game, I’d roll with Lofton at FB or in creative offset formations. Heck, you can even do this out of the pistol. Perhaps it’s too much to ask to swing from wide open to power run, but something needs to be done to control certain games our defense simply cannot manage.

I was thinking the same thing.

I actually would prefer a little more “Mario ball” with this offense.

It would also take the decision making out of Cam’s hands a little. Which I think I might help him.

Went out there caught a big pass like he'd been playing all game. Stop holding them back.

Needs to play more. I didn't love the TEs urgencies on the screen plays we ran to them. Needed 1 yard multiple times and either failed or barely got it.

He was on the sideline laying down after the catch. Looked to me the wind got knocked out of him.

I saw that hit and was surprised he got right up - and watched as he motioned to the sideline to come out.

He tried not to show it - but that had to be painful! I'm just glad he's bruised and not one-legged now.

I would go into every game assuming there is gonna be a pick 6 and the defense is going to get BBQ'd twice playing too aggressively, if you try to control the game what happens is you have fewer possessions to outplay your mistakes because I don't think the pick 6 tendency or the massive defensive bust tendency is going away if you reduce the total possessions in the game and grind the clock, so those errors just become a bigger percentage of the total points.

I’ve merely suggested controlling the game situationally. The engine of our team is Cam and we need to be wide open and throwing the ball. Occasionally, if we’re out of sorts or it’s a specific game scenario, instead of trying to control the clock from spread formations, my suggestion is to do so from the sets we already have, but rarely use.

Fwiw, building a strategy on the expectation of a pick 6 seems flawed. It’s an outlier.

I don't know if that was a safety or CB. But he bounced off of Lofton like a bug off a windshield. Hitting Lofton is a business decision, hit at your own risk!

I really like Lofton so I am all-in using him and using those other sets more and punching teams in the mouth, I don't want us to run down the clock while doing that until the defense gets sorted or until they have a big lead but it can work situationally.

Re: outliers we may need to be perfect on the season so I am worried about the outlier case here more than I would be normally especially because there isn't a huge opportunity cost to the plan for the outlier case because the plan is "Make sure Ward and Restrepo have a lot of time and possessions to cook, don't run down the clock on yourself, their EPA/play is gonna beat the opposing team's after the Canes defense settles and figures out whatever the 1st half gimmick was".

More Lofton 2024 Agenda 🤝🏼
