I believe Figs was going to be battling armbrister then eventually Owens all season for the strong side position before this happened. Blue was slightly ahead of Young for the 2nd string middle spot after an impressive spring, he was actually looking like a player out there. Armbrister starts but I think Owens takes the spot during the season, kid just gives too much effort to keep off the field. Things could get interesting depending on where they put Chad or how Trent Harris keeps progressing. One of these two producing at the jack position along with AQM could let McCord slide to the strong linebacker position. He is good enough to cover tight ends, look at the film he makes plays period. He had a pick with some deflections last year.

We don't have the bodies to run a 3-4, but I'm sure our staff will still be stubborn and try to.

Would be a blessing in disguise to have to run a 4-3 this season. I truly feel we have some explosive edge rushers in that defense.

Jermaine Grace will end up starting by mid season, honestly he looked better in the spring than any of our LBs other than perryman.

I would reckon it would go something like this...

4-3 OPTIONS
Will: Grace
Mike: Perryman
Sam: Kirby

Will: Kirby
Mike: Perryman
Sam: Armbrister

This isn't ideal cause Kirby is more of a will but you can't play Grace anywhere but at Will due to his size. So it's more likely the second option is chosen and Grace comes in only in nickel D.

3-4
WOLB: Quan
WILB: Kirby
SILB: DP
SOLB: McCord or Armbrister

Here Grace doesn't fit at all. You can't have a 210 lb backer over an uncovered guard. The only issue is at Sam. 3-4 Sam is more of a pass rushing spot than 4-3 Sam so McCord might fit but there are still some cover responsibilities. He has to be able to play curl to flat zone. McCord and Armbrister could switch depending on down and distance and opponent tendencies (MCCord for blitzes, Armbrister for coverage) but then you are likely giving the offense a clue of what is coming.

Figueroa ****ed this defensive front over.

I'd say Darrion Owens has a chance too, he's a big, rangry hard hitting kid who came in early but at 217 he still doesn't have the mass yet to play regularly in either front. He could start next year once he is in the 230s. What ****es me off is he could use a redshirt year but he will get rushed into some duty prematurely due to Numbnuts actions.

Actually our best pass rushers pretty much have to be in the 3-4 to be on the field. Quan and McCord each are about 242. They will get destroyed in the run game at that size at DE by OTs. Taking on RBs instead with the OT covered is better for them.

De don't need to be 280 in a 4-3. Lsu mad it work with mingo and Montgomery playing right around the same weight.
