Limiting Explosives...

Explosives you say?

Be prepared for the kitchen sink. Keep containment and guys infront force the ball to the sidelines. Lean on the Dline to cause havoc. I don’t want to see a barrage of blitzing putting our guys on islands and losing containment.

i would hope that we can fix our errors during the bye week. i trust we will do so even though we have limited talent in the back 7

I guarantee Louisville will call identical play calls that Cal scored with.

I would very much advocate for a bend but don’t break approach. Give them nothing.

If we tackle how we did in the Florida game we’ll roll. Even Guidry admitted that the tackling was good compared to fall camp.

Florida tried the whole motion thing and it didn’t work

Angles and tackling were atrocious against the turkeys and the calibears
This. Basic stuff we did well against UF like sacrificing your body in order to set an edge and redirect things back inside on those east-west runs were lost over the last month. We don't need to change the defensive philosophy if we're just disciplined in our fundamentals.

Idk man. Too many explosive plays against us over the past 2 games for me to just dismiss it as scheme issue or a “hero ball” issue.
If players are consistently making the same mistakes on the same types of plays then it’s a weakness that is being exploited for 2 weeks in a row.
And when something works effectively you have no choice but to continue to exploit it.
This might be a talent/football IQ issue and not a coaching/scheme issue.

The reason we keep going man may be because dudes would get slaughtered in zone if they keep falling for fakes and misdirection.

However, I am a football idiot. But when I see pattern of bad sht happening in anything it’s usually for a reason.

I hope I’m wrong.

Just stop a RB screen and we limit the explosive plays.

Yes.

Posters are setting their hair on fire as if we have given up a bunch of long bombs.

We've had some defensive busts. That's not an excuse, it's a reflection that if you don't have guys IN THE RIGHT SPOT, it doesn't matter if they can run a 4.1 40 yard dash. If your LB blitzes at the wrong time and leaves one side of the field wide open, you will give up a lot of yardage.

Most of these "explosive" plays have been SHORT plays. Most of these "explosive" plays have not involved breaking multiple tackles.

Again, that is not an excuse for saying we should have given up the yardage. But it's not like the other team did anything elaborate.

Louisiana Lightning needs to dial up more zone. Cover 2 Man under is fine to mix in but Shut will gouge explosives if we stubbornly stay in man the entire game. Ironically, this is the one QB that will play into our QB pressure rate ala Mendoza IF we can tackle in short pass / screen game -- which we have not shown the propensity to do with effect. 2 weeks to prep this ***** and bring out a true championship level defense. Should win by 10+ if we limit explosives. Clemple has also shown to be explosive and Klubnik is showing his potential as of late. We need to tighten this up.

Run the ball. Stop explosives and chunks on 1st & 2nd down. Let Cam be Cam but with a lead.
Well well well

Weren’t we in cover 3 on the long Cal TE touchdown? It’s not just man coverage that’s giving up chunks.
