Lifewallet Recruiting Buzz 6/29

He signed the #16 class in 2022 literally by himself after being hired 2 weeks before signing day. I genuinely don’t understand how adult men can be this emotional and clueless at the same time. It’s fascinating to watch.
You've been on CIS a long time. You know **** well...oh you said adult men....

my bad...I agree with you 100%.

Fascinating.

If Zo's evaluation(s), regardless of stars, says "this young man is a take", does that make you feel better about the class no matter the final ranking?

For me, I trust in Zo until he gives me a reason not to.
It’s fair

We are all suffering from PTSD (apologies to anyone actually going through it not trying to make light of if)

I’m not sure why people are so upset. These aren’t takes that are coming out of the woodwerks and are clear desperate attempts. We’ve known these guys are gonna be in the class for a while so they should have been in everyones mock. There’s been a really good stream of reporting on this site basically walking a recruit from our evals to our class. As tight lipped as Mario is the info coming from this overwhelming amount of camps, visits, evals etc has been amazing

I get it though we need the big names to come through and hopefully over the next 6-8 weeks it comes into focus the way we hope

But to me the status quo hasn’t changed much if at all

1. Elite Guys

A big reason everyone is so worked up is the expectations that were set by D$, Gaby and some of the insiders on here about the amount of NIL budget available and the excitement among recruits. Lately the online pubs' crystal balls started going to other programs, which contradicts the positivity we were hearing. it's still not clear if it was just hype or not. We'll know in the next few weeks who was right.

I also appreciate the point that if we miss on our targets, a lot of the remaining options are now locking into other programs, so we'll be gapped. Another poster noted that the vast majority of verbals actually keep their commitments, so the it's unlikely Mario can swoop in and steal a bunch of elite guys from other teams if he misses on his initial targets. I hear that. But I also think the NIL and portal change the calculus here. We know programs like UF, A&M, UTX have a lot to prove and their classes could become unglued if they have mediocre seasons, just like ours could. So if we take care of business on the field, I still believe we can raid other team's verbal commit lists. And if that doesn't work, we can portal the gaps.

2. 3 Stars

I understand and partially buy into the concern about so many 3 Star commits so far in this class. Looking at Bama, Georgia, Taint with virtually no three stars, it's hard not to be concerned. I still remember the Al Golden camps where our staff was the first to identify Nate Dortch, Larry Hope and Josh Witt as the next Sean Taylor 3 stars. BUT:

^ This. Zo was paid by the NFL to evaluate players. Like Empirical, I'll trust him over Adam Friedman and other armchair evaluators until he proves us wrong.

Some of those commits will become 4 stars, some of those commits will not meet expectations as seniors and find other homes. There is no class cap, only the team cap. I am highly confident we will have 30 scholarships turn over on the roster next off season. We will have room. So why wouldn't we accept their verbals while they prove themselves and we go big game hunting?

We need came changing receiver, let me now when that happens
So you don't like the ones we have committed and the ones we are still recruiting....okay...you are entitled to your opinion. You did say "offensive recruits" and not limited to "game changing receiver"

Georgia has 7- 3 stars in the class right now.
Bama 2. OSU has 2

No it doesn’t. What kind of winner did Zo put together in the NFL. Having him is Better than not having him but ppl act like we got Bill phucking Belichik on staff helping us recruit. So is a piece but his almighty scouting eye is a little absurd in my opinion.

Who was the website/recruiting tracker who jumped the gun for one of Miami's commitments? Took away their thunder a bit?

Maybe a different team?

I just recall vaguely it was not very nice.
That was Rivals.

Then On3 clearly didn’t get the memo early in the afternoon on Barney.

I’ll keep it very honest and frank. Miami missed on Barney, no way of spinning that.

We had two guys out there last weekend and this was the feeling and what everyone in the building was told coming out of the weekend, that Barney would be committing to Miami.

I don’t get into the hedging game or play both sides of the fence and only share what I get told from the horses mouth. A lot of people were told Miami, this catches a lot of people by surprise too. Anyone who tells you that they knew he was going to Nebraska that is around the football program and close enough to it, they’re lying to you.

That’s funny. Even Rivals thought he was a Cane up until last hour. I wonder what happened….
