Let's talk Tyriq McCord

Curious as to what his role will be vs GT. His pass rushing services won't be needed so perhaps he sneaks in some time at linebacker.

That kid will murder that option on the edges. Side note but I think this game will be figatron's game where he turns heads.

Had Luther Robinson know it was McCord he was pushing out of the way on the Bush sack and fumble, #17 would have had a TD to add to his totals as well He was trying to grab it and run in. Robinson recovered the fumble so you cant fault him, but Mccord scores there if not

I have to agree with the guys that say our best player is DP. Porter is the most important because of what he does, it feeds the rest. However as far as talent, speed, reading plays and just plain smashing mother****ers into submission it has to be DP. Did you see that qb after he got thrown down? Then the kid went to the sidelines and last yrs qb was telling him, "thats why i didnt wanna play these fugging guys! I told you that 52 hits like a truck, my fuggin hip STILL hurts" At least thats what I think he said to him....lol

Chickillo's the best player on the DL--the only guy who plays all the snaps. Everybody else is one dimensional at this point. Pierre could likely play both run and pass but they've apparently decided that Robinson is better at getting to the QB. Chickillo's actually stepped his game up substantially as he's succeeding against the run and pass as a 3-4 DE and is getting to the passer as a DT in our pass rush. He's been pretty underrated this year probably because he doesn't have sack numbers.

Mccord's been exactly what they would've wanted--a guy to come in on pure pass downs and make plays. I doubt his role will change at all for GT it's just a question of how many 3rd and longs we can force because he won't be out there absent those downs.

I think he will play a lot in GT. The ability to get penetration against an option offense is huge. It messes up the timing in the backfield and will **** that offense up.

I saw a guy in the breezeway yesterday holding up a sign that said "17." I said "Stephen Morris!" and he said "No, Tyriq McCord. That's my son. But, Stephen Morris is good too. I'll take him too."

Regardless of where he ranks, he is playing well and improving every week. Hat's off to Tyriq and the coaches for helping him develop as a player.

DP. Hands down. Has been for two years.

Also DP and the secondary is much better and its only because the DL. A great DL makes the back 7 do what they do and this is why everyone back there is much better. If Tyriq or AQM are just JAGS our D would be a mirror image of last year IMO.

"Best player on defense" can't be a guy that only plays 3rd downs.

It's between Perryman and Porter. Without great play from those two McCord never even gets on the field.

I'm extremely impressed with the development of McCord though. Kinda surprised that he couldn't get any pass rush yesterday.

my guess would be because of gap integrity we don't see much figatron till we build a solid lead. Freshman against the option isn't what we've done in the past.

I still don't think Chickillo gets enough love. Having a guy like him allows us to do everything we do. I think just because he came in so hyped, with so many expectations, that we have kind of been underwhelmed by him fulfilling them this year. He is an immovable object against the run and very effective bull rusher at DT on pass rush downs.
